Description

(N0 Model.)
M. WEIRIGH.
DENTAL MATRIX. No. 412,812. Patented Oct. 15, 1889.
WITNESSES I i 06'! A Q UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE M. W'EIRIOH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY D. JUSTI, 'OF SAME PLACE.
DENTAL MATRIX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,812, dated October 15, 1889.
Application filed May 27, 1889. Serial No.3l2,282. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. WEIRIGH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Matrices for Dental Purposes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a matrix for dental purposes formed of a strip or band of flexible material having attached at one end a loop or eye, through which the other end is passed and by which it is fastened, whereby a single loop may be employed and the band permanently affixed to one side thereof, and the matrix may be firmly held during the operation and afterward easily removed.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a matrix for dental purposes embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the matrix, on a reduced scale, in position on a tooth.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a matrix embodying my invention, the same being formed of a strip or band B, of thin metal of flexible or pliable nature, having at one end an eye, which is permanently affixed to the loop 0, through which latter the other end may be passed.
The operation is as follows: The band is placed around the tooth to be operated upon and the free end passed through said loop and drawn tightly, after which it is bent back, making a bight, which retains its position and prevents the band from slipping, the matrix being thereby firmly held on the tooth during the operation.
In order to remove the matrix, the band is bent forward, whereby it is loosened, and may then be slipped off of the tooth, it being seen that a simple, inexpensive, and easily-manipulated device is presented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A dental matrix consisting of a band of flexible metal and a single loop, the band having an eye which is permanently affixed to one side of the loop, and having its other end passing freely between said eye and the opposite side of the loop, substantially as described.
GEO. M. WEIRIGH.
