EDMUND R. NEBELING, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP FOR TEETH.
Application filed June 15, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND R. NEBELING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Woodhaven, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clasp for Teeth, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in dental appliances, and it pertains more particularly to artificial teeth.
It is one of the objects of the invention to provide a new and improved means for attaching artificial teeth to natural teeth.
It is a further object of the invention to provide an improved means by which the artificial teeth may be removably secured to natural teeth.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide a new and novel method of attaching the securing means to the artificial teeth.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a portion of a set of teeth showing the manner of use of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention; 7
Fig. 2 is a detail plan view partly broken away of a plate showing the attachment of the member;
Fig. 3 is a detail view in elevation of the attaching member;
Fig. 4: is a perspectiveview of the attaching member after the same has been shaped to conform to the tooth with which it is adapted to engage.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates a plate, and said plate carries a plurality of artificial teeth designated by the reference character 6. The reference character 7 designates the attaching clip, which clip is suitably secured to the plate by being embedded therein, it being understood that the plate 5 is molded from hard rubber or other The clip 7 has Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Got. 4:, 1921.
Serial No. 477,676.
one of its ends enlarged as at 8, and said enlarged portion is cut out so as to provide an opening 9, through which the material of the plate is pressed when the clip 7 is positioned in said plate. Surrounding the cutout portion 9 is a plurality of indentations or the like which provide a roughened surface upon the enlarged end 8 of the clip in order that the same may not become loosened with respect to the plate 5 into which it. is embedded.
Projecting from the enlarged portion 8 the plate is formed with a relatively narrow projecting tongue or the like 11, and said tongue is substantially uniform in width.
The clip is formed from suitable metal, such as a gold alloy, and is both resilient and pliable in order that the same may be shaped to conform to the teeth with which it is engaged, and, at the same time, have sufficient resiliency to frictionally retain its grip thereon.
The device is used in the following manner:
The artificial teeth are suitably secured t a plate or foundation in the ordinary manner, and the clip 7 is embedded in said plate or base during the manufacturethereof with the tongue portion 11 thereof projecting from said base. The plate or base is then properly positioned within the mouth and the tooth portion 11 of the clip is bent about the tooth which it is adapted to engage until the proper form thereof has been obtained.
1 claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising an enlarged body portion provided with an opening therein and a reduced tongue projecting from said body portion.
2. A device of the character described comprising a body portion of substantially triangular shape provided with a centrally disposed opening therethrough, a plurality of projections formed on the body portion and defining said openings, and an elongated ton ue of uniform width projecting from said body portion, as and for the purpose set forth.
EDMUND R. NEBELING.
