FLOUR-BIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 406,038, dated July 2, 1889. ,Application filed July 7, 1888. Serial No. 279,257. (No model.)
To @ZZ wiz/0m it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIJAH P. ELLIS, a citizen of the United States, residing-at Oak Ilall, in the county of Clay and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flour-Bin and Measuring Device, ot' which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a ilounbin; and it consists in a certain novel construct-ion and arrangement of devices, fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim.
On the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the Hour-bin embodying myimprovements. Fig. 2 is avertical central longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical central transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the rectangular vertically-e101lgated body of the device, in the upper portion of which is the flour-bin B, and in the lower portion the receiver O, which communicates with the bin, and is narrower` than the same. The top of the bin is closed by the lid D, and its lower end is separated from the upper endet' the receiver by the screen E, above which is mounted the agitator F, having an operatingcrank fon its front end. The front side of the receiver is provided with the transparent panel G, on opposite sides of which are ar ranged scales, which indicate, respectively, the amount of flour which the receiver contains either in pounds or quarts, whereby at any time during the operation of sifting the operator can ascertain the amount sifted. The object in providing t-he scale of pints and quarts is that many recipes for cooking' specify cupfuls instead of pounds, and a cupful usually represents one-half pint. The bottom of the receiver is provided. with the slide I-I,
which is adapted to be drawn out to allow the measured vflour to be deposited in a suitable vessel.
As above mentioned, thc receiver is narrower than the bin and does not occupy the enti-re space between the sides ol' the bodyA, thereby forming compartments I I,whic.h may be provided with small canisters or boxes L, of any preferred shape. This construction, however, t'orms no part of my present `invention.
This combined flour-bin and measuring device is designed to be hung on the wall above or adjacent to the table or stand, and to enable it to be suspended it is provided with the apertured ears N N, adapted to be engaged with nails or hooks.
Having described my invention, I claim- The herein-described `flour-bin and measuring device, comprising the rectangular body A, having its upper portion Jforming a flourbin, the curved sieve and rotary stirrer mounted in said body at the bottom of the bin, and stationary receiver (E, arranged be neath the sieve' and secured to sides of the said body at the base of the bin and having its bottom provided with a slide, said receiver being narrower than said body, and its sides being formed of vertical walls flaring at their upper ends, where they are secured to the rectangular body, the transparent panel G in the side of said body, and the graduated scale, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto alli xed my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
ELIJAH P. ELLIS. lVitnesses:
S. C. HAM, GEORGE PRrEs'r.
