Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEBIIARD HAGENMEYEE, 0E BIG EI'VEE, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVED HEAD-BLOCK FOR SAW-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 39,647, dated August 25, 1863.
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GERHARD HAGEN- MEYER, of Big River, Mendocino county, in the State of California, have invented, used, and constructed an improved head-block, as applied to circular-saw mills or machines, entitled, Hagenmeyers Improved HeadABlock for Saw-Mills 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, iu which- Figure l is a perspective View.
rI'he nature of my invention is designed to expedite the change of position of the mate-V rial to be sawed by means=of the parts herein described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct the headlblock A of about the shape as represented, and of suitable material, so that the same may slide on' the tramway between the guides, (between the lower dotted lines, to the left in the drawing,) the face of which is slightly rounded, and` from the base tapers upward. The under side thereof I provide with a cavity of the required dimension, as to admit of the lettingin of the threaded journal-nut B,litting to the screw O. Said B is attached to a piston, D, tting through the elbow-shaped A, as indicated by the vertical dotted lines, and in the back part of the head-block, and may befastened thereto in any convenient manner. Said piston D is connected by a chain-link, E, by a pivot through the slot and tongue in the lower end,
and the upper endis still further connected in a similar manner to the handle F, the upper or shorter end of this handle inclines in a contrary direction, so that it may assume the shape of a sickle, and is made to t in the part G, which is provided with a slot, as indicated by the rectangle square. A bolt and nut hold the handle F in the desired position. The object of the slot in G is merely designed to remove the journal-nut B entirely away from the screw C. To the under side of the elbow A, I attach a journal, H, by screws a ct, but Without the thread, into which the screw C may slide. The screw C extends beyond the latter end, where I provide the same with a handle, which serves in adjusting the headblock. .lts operation, though simple, presents many advantages, especially the economy of time and labor. By lifting the lever E the threaded journal B is disengaged from the screw B, and the head-block may be expeditiously moved with ease. By depressing the lever the action of the screw can be brought in requisition equally 'as fast, and its further adjustment is obtained by the handle to said screw. This device particularly recommends itself to circular-saw mills.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement and combination of the journals H and B, working in connection with the parts D, E, F, and G, and operating in the manner described and set forth.
GERHARD HAGENMEYER.
