UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. WILEY, OF LOOKPOR'I, NEW YORK.
BUTTER-WORKER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,706, dated June 12, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WVILEY, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Butter WVorks and Packers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in arranging the several parts of this worker substantially in the manner hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the worker. Fig. 2 represents a plan View. Fig. 3 is a perspective of a slide which will be described.
In the drawings A represents a platform upon which is erected a standard B. This standard is provided with an opening or slot through which the end of a lever C,
The end of the lever and the standard are provided with pin holes for the purpose of adjusting the end of the said lever.
a, (4, represent the holes in the standard through which the pin made of any required strength is made to pass.
The lever C, is provided with a long opening or slot 0, through which one end of a movable standard D is made to pass.
Gr represents a slide block, which is secured on the under side of the lever C, by means of a metallic piece H and a screw I. The piece H lies across the lever and the screw I, passes through it, through the opening 0, in the lever and then into the slide G. The standard D, passes through this slide and is attached to it by means of a pin at w. The standard D is provided with holes as will be seen by means of which it can be raised or lowered, and its position may be changed horizontally by moving the slide G, upon the lever C.
E, represents a head or worker, attached to the lower end of the standard D.
F, represents a revolving table which is placed upon the platform A. upon a pin which passes from its center into the said platform.
In using this worker the pail or bucket containing the butter is placed upon the table F. The operator then takes hold of the bucket with one hand and the lever C with the other, and by working the lever up and down the head E, presses upon the butter and works the milk out. The bucket is kept in motion by revolving the table F, thus bringing every portion of the butter under the head.
It -will be readily seen that the several parts of this worker may be readily adjusted to suit circumstances.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the revolving table F, upon the platform A, the head or worker E, the standard D, which is adjustable laterally and horizontally the lever C, and the slide G, when the same are used substantially as and for the purpose specified.
WM. H. WILEY.
