MAX RUBIN, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 394,014, dated December 4, 1888.
Application filed October 13, 1888. Serial No. 287,980. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX RUB1N,0f the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
The object ol. my invention is to provide new and improved buckle to be used on the back straps of pants, vests, or on belts, which buckle is simple in construction, effective in use, and can be readily applied, removed, and fastened or unfastened.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.
In the acconuiianying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of my improved buckle, showing the same applied on the back straps of a gar nient. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same closed. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional elevation of the same closed. Fig. I is a similar sectional view opened.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The main plate A is provided at one edge with two lugs or ears, B, at the ends, and at the opposite edge with two lugs or ears, (,at the ends, the lugs projecting in the opposite directions from the lugs B from the plane of the main plate. The ai'ignlarly-bcnt clamping-plate I), having serrations at its inner edge, is provided with end flanges or cars E, which are pivoted to the lugs B. Alike plate,
F, has end flanges or ears G, which are piv- J oted to the lugs (J of the main plate, the main plate A thus having a serrated clamping-plate pivoted at each longitudimll edge and at opposite planes, and said clamping-plates being thus adapted to swing in opposite directions.
One of the back straps, H, is passed between theback of the main plate and the corresponding clamping-plate, F, said clampingplate swinging toward the main plate for the purpose of holding the buckle on said back strap. The end of the other back strap, J, is passed between the front of the main plate and the clamping-plate I), which clampingplate D is swung toward the main plate, whereby said strap .l is securely held on the buckle. The buckle can be opened and closed very easily and readily adjusted to any desired position on the strap.
In case the garment is to be washed, the buckle can readily be removed and then replaced when it is to be used.
If desired, the clamping-plates at one edge may be omitted and the main plate provided at said edge with a slot through which the strap or belt can be passed, and is then sewed or otherwise fastened to the main plate.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In the buckle herein described, the combination, with the main plate provided with two pairs of lugs on the opposite longitudinal edges and bent up in the opposite direction to the plane of said main plate and made integral therewith, of a clamping-plate pivoted to each pair of lugs, said clanu'iing-plate being located on opposite sides of the main plate and swinging in opposite direction to each other, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
)IAX RUBIN.
