LEOPOLD SACANVILLE, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
CORSET'-I FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,639, dated November 13, 1888.
Application filed April 6, 1888. Serial No. 269.849. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD SAcANVILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corset-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present invention is toproduce a corset-fastening in which all the buttons may be simultaneously released f rom the button-clasps.
rlhe nature of the invention consists in the details of combination and construction, substantially as illustratedin the drawings, hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure l illustrates a corset-fastening constructed according to my invention with the clasps closed on the buttons, Fig. 2 illustrates the same, but with the clasps open and the buttons released.
A and B designate the two front springs of a corset. The clasps are attached to A and the buttons to B. The buttons are designated by h. The clasps consist each of two pieces. The part It of the clasps is riveted or otherwise rigidly attached to the spring A in the nianner and form illustrated.. The other part, B, is pivotally attached to the spring A by the rivet K, so that it can be oscillat-ed upon said rivet K.
F designates a strip of sheet metal, preferably Sheetsteel, extending almost through the whole length of the spring A, and is attached to the part R ofthe clasps by the short straps r. These straps are loosely pivoted on said metallic strip F by one end, and loosely riveted by the other to the part Pt of the clasps R R', as illustrated. For the greater part of its length this strip of metal F works on the under side of the spring A; but one end of said spring` passing through the mortise E and the other through Inortise E come upon the top of the spring A. The mortise E is placed at the lower end of the corset, and the strip F is loosely riveted to the part R of the clasp below said mortisc. Said metallic strip F is furn nished at either end with a metallic tag, designated, respectively, by C and P. The tag O is drilled with a hole which iits upon the button a.
't' designates a metal clip riveted on the spring A, the better to hold the strip F in position. At e the part B of the lower clasp is made a little thinner to accommodate the strip F,which is riveted upon it, as aforesaid.
To use this device, when acorset constructed with it is to be put on,the operator draws the tag C downward until the hole in said tag ts over the button a. Then all the clasps are closed to the position represented in Fig. l. The corset is then put on and buttoned in the usual way, and will be found to be as secure and satisfactory as any ordinary corset; but when it is desired to open the corset the operator takes the tag O oft the button a and pulls the tag P. This opens all the clasps, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and the corset is free to come open.
XVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rPhe combination, in a eo1'sct,with the spri ng A, having mortises E and E', of the metallic strip F,working partly under and partly above said spring A and passing through said mortises, the straps b, connecting the said metallic strip F and the parts R of the clasps, the clasps composed of two parts, R andR, attached to the spring A, as specilicd, the tags O and P, attached to said strip F, as specified, and affording facility for slipping said strip and in connection with the button a, detachably securing said strip F and the spring B, and the buttons 7L upon said spring B, and interlocking the clasps of the spring A, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
LEOPOLD SAOANVILLE. Witnesses:
