Description

(No Model.)
, L. B. PRAHAR.
FASTENING FOR HAND BAG, POCKET BOOK, 0R PURSE FRAMES. No. 337,787. Patented Mar. 9, 1886.
WITNESSES I INVENTOR om y ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS B. PRAHAR, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO PRAHAR & SHEPHARD, OF NEW YORK, n. Y.
FASTENING FOR HAND-BAG, POCKET-BOOK, AND PURSE FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,787, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed January 7, 1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS B. PRAHAR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastenings for Hand-Bag,
Pocket-Book, and Purse Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying IO drawings, forming apart of this specification,
plied. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to provide fastenings for hand bag, pocket book, and
purse frames, constructed in such a manner as to be reliable in use, neat in appearance, and inexpensive in manufacture.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the fastening, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A B represent the parts of the frame, which are hinged to each other at their ends in the ordinary manner.
To one part of the frame, as B, is rigidly at- 0 tached a small stud, C, to the forward side of which is secured asmall spring, D. The stud G and spring D are inserted in a recess in the ball or knob E, which is hinged to the said stud by a rivet,F, passing transversely through 3 5 the said stud and knob. The rivet F is placed below the center of the knob E, and the spring D is so formed as to rest against the inner surface of the said knob E above and in front of Serial No. 187,851. (No model.)
its center, as shown in Fig. 3, or may be otherwise arranged to hold the knob forward.
To the other part, A, of the frame is rigidly attached, or upon it is formed, a small catch, G, to engage with the recessed knob E and lock the said frame shut. The catch Gis beveled upon the forward side of its outer end, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
With this construction, when the frame AB is closed, the beveled end of the catch G strikes against the lower part of the knob E and turns the said knob upon its pivot until the said catch enters the recess of the said knob, when the spring D brings the said knob back to its former position, and the frame is securely fastened.
To unfasten the frame A B, the knob E is turned back upon its pivot F, against the pressure of the spring D, until the catch G is released from the said knob E, when the said frame A B can be opened.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the part B of the frame, having a stud,O,provided with a spring, D, and the part A of the said frame, having a catch, G, of the recessed knob E, pivoted transversely to the said stud and engaging with the said catch, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said frame will be securely fastened, and can be readily unfastened, as set forth.
LOUIS B. PRAHAR.
Vitnesses:
JAMES T. GRAHAM, G. SEDeWIoK.
