JOHN A. LLOYD, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 39,055, dated June 30, 1863.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. LLoYD, of the city of St. Paul, in the county ofltamsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Ghurn and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in fixing to an upright or horizontal sha-ft or spin- (lle two wooden dashers, to be composed of flat or round slats, or perforated wooden wings,in
combination with two wire dashers, the Wire dashers to be tinned to prevent them from corroding, fixing the same into a common churn or tub made for the purpose, the shaft resting in a socket at the bottom of churn, and the top` of the spindle revoh ing in a `journal in the top of the braoket, the dashers having a reciprocating motion, obtained by a level' attaehed to a segment of a gear-wheel fitting into a pinion on the spindle.
I construct a round tub or ehurn,whieh can be turned in a common tub'lathe, and fiX into it an upright shaft or spindle, as shown at B B, 'with two Wooden dashers, to be composed of flat or rounds slats, attached as shown at 0.0, in combination with two wire dashers, a a., the spindle resting in a socket at the bottom of the churn, as at I, the top of the spindle in a journal-box in the top ot' the bracket, as at E, the braeket being fastened to the cover of the churn d, the cover of the churn being in two equal parts, as shown at d d. A reciprocating motion is imparted to the spindle and dashers by means of a lever attached to a segment gear-wheel, as at F F, geared into a pinion on the shaft B B, (shown at G,) the segment-wheel being` hung on a bolt or fastened into the bracket E, as shown at h.
