Description
(NoModeL) H LOEWBNBACH- RECEIPT AND RECORD BOOK. No. 390,087,
I wime o o e o 7 aware/WOW llNiTE gTATES PATENT Fries.
HUGO LOEWENBAOH, OF MILWAUKEE, IVISOONSIN.
RECEIPT AND RECORD BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,087, dated September 25', 1888.
Application filed May 10. 1887. Serial No. 237,676. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, HUGO Lonwnumcn, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receipt and Record Books; andl do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to receipt and record books such as are used by merchants, manufacturers, and others in shipping freight and express matter, and will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my present invention, which I term a duplicate book. Fig. 2 is a like View of another form of my said invention, which I term a triplicate book, with the sheets of carbonpaper belonging thereto in place, both of said figures representing books from which the detachable leaves have been partly removed, and hence showing only the narrow permanent leaves at the left.
A A represent the covers of a bound book, a certain number of the leaves 0 O ofwhich are originally of substantially the entire width of the book; but said leaves, near where they are bound into the book, are divided vertically by a row of perforations, a, so as to leave a narrow strip, 1), when one of these leaves 0 has been removed.
In the form of my device shown in Fig. 1 these detachable wide leaves 0 are alternated with narrower leaves, B, permanently bound into the book and not detachable.
In the form of device shown in Fig. 2 asimilar arrangement exists, except that between the first permanent narrow leaf B and first wide detachable leaf 0 there is interposed a narrow detachable leaf, D,with a vertical row of perforations, c, dividing the main or detachable portion of said leaf D from its stub d, which latter is permanently bound into the book like the stub b of the wide detachable leaf 0 and the permanent leaf B, and this arrangement is continued throughout the entire book, and, besides this, some portion of the edge or one of the corners of the leaf B is cut out or off, as shown at 6, so that a portion of each leaf D will be exposed when the corresponding leaf B is flat thereon, and this exposed portion (marked f) may have, if preferred, any suitable inscription (such as Tear out) printed thereon, and a like inscription may, if desired, be printed at any suitable place (as at the point marked g) on the leaf 0. The upper portion of every leaf, above the line h, may be printed appropriately to order with the name and address of theuser, while below this line the items or other matter may be written, (on the permanent leaf B,) and if the carbon sheet or sheets E are in place then a duplicate (or triplicate) of this writing will appear upon the sheet 0, or the sheets D and 0, (according to which book is used,) and these leaves may be torn out for obvious purposes. My present invention is,in part,an improvement on that shown in my prior application for patentfor receipt and record books filed July 16, 1886, Serial No. 208,170, and its use and advantages are too obvious to require elaborate description.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A carbon copying receipt and record book consisting of a series of blank leaves of thin paper extending the entire width of the book, having between them one or more other blank leaves of similar material of less width than the first-named leaves, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A carbon copying receipt and record book consisting of a series of blank leaves of thin paper extending the entire width of the book, having between each two of said wide leaves two narrower blank leaves of similar material, one of said narrow leaves having a portion of its edge out off or out, so as to ex- 0 pose part of the other narrow leaf, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A carbon copying receipt and record book consisting of a series of detachable blank leaves of thin paper extending the entire width 95 of the book, with two narrow blank leaves of similar material between each two wide leaves, one only of said narrow leaves being detachable, and the permanent leaves and stubs of the detachable leaves permanently bound be- 100 tween the covers of the book, substantially as In testimony that I claim the foregoing I 10 and for the purpose set forth. have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in
4. In a carbon copying receipt and record the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconbook, the combination of series of permanent sin, in the presence of two witnesses.
5 and detachable leaves bound to ether each of i 1 the former having a portion o f its edge out HUGO Q oil or out, so as to expose part of the leaf be- W'itnesses: low, substantially as and for the purpose set H. G. UNDERWOOD,
forth. N. E. OLIPHANT.
