A principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel toy in the shape of a doll and which is readily expandable in size when a child depresses a button there upon.
Another object of the present invention isto provide a readily expandable doll which will ammuse and surprise children.
Still another object of the present in-ention is to provide an expandable doll toy which maybe attractively decorated so to represent a clown or any other desirable character.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a spry springy sprouting clown which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of the present invention shown in a contracted position,
FIG. 2 is a front elevation view'thereof shown in an expanded position, and showing the device partly broken away so to illustrate the working mechanism, and
FIG. 3 is an enlarged'side elevation view showing the operating push-button structure.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a spry springy sprouting clown according to the present invention wherein there is a doll consisting of a stationary lower section 11 and an upwardly movable top section 12 between which there is an intermediate expandable section 13. All of the sections 11, 12 and 13 are covered by a flexible fabric material 14 that represents a garment or clothing of the doll so that the clown can be readily retracted into the position as shown in FIG. 1 or extended as shown in FIG. 2.
The lower section 11 includes a base structure that includes a representation of clowns shoes 15 which maybe made of a weighed material so to assure that the clown doll will remain in an upright position while in operative use. The base structure includes upwardly extending leg portions 16 to the upper portion of which there is secured a transverse member 17 and to whic one end of a lazy tong 18 is attached.
The top section 12 includes a transverse horizontal memberl9 the outer ends of which form the shoulders of the clown, the center of the member 19 being attached to the opposite end of the lazy tong 18. The member 19 supports there upon a clown head 20 surmounted by a clown cap 21'. Additionally the member 19 supports the upper end of garment fabric 14 which upon opposite sides thereof is fashioned into sidewardly extending arms 22 the terminal ends thereof being fashioned into hands 23.
The lazy tong 18 is fitted with a horizontal transverse extending compression coil spring 24 which normally urges the lazy tong 18 to change from the contracted position as shown in FIG. 1 to the extended position as shown in FIG. 2. A push-button 25 upon a front side of the garment fabric 14 serves as an operating button for releasing the spring 24, the button 25 by being depressed permitting freedom for the spring 24 to quickly contract and thus cause the top section of the clown doll to be quickly thrust upwardly into an elongated position thus giving surprise and excitement to a child operating the same. Obviously, the button must be connected to structure that denies freedom for the sidewardly spread apart ends of the lazy tong links to be drawn toward each other; such structure accordingly serving to arrest the link ends in spread apart position; such structure being pushed away from the link ends by the pushbutton.
Thus there is provided a spry springy sprouting clown for amusing children. It is to be noted that all of the exterior parts are made of soft flexible material so to completely enclose the inner working mechanism.
As shown in FIG. 2, an upper and lower guides 26 are pivotable into the lazy tong frame when in the extended position so to maintain the extended doll in an upright condition.
What I now claim is:
1. In a spry springy sprouting clown, the combination of a toy doll, said doll including a stationary lower section, an upwardly movable top section, and an intermediate expandable section, said lower section including a base unit that includes a pair of shoe members made of weighed material, a pair of upstanding legs upon said shoe member, the upper 'end of said legs supporting a transverse extending member to which a lower end of said intermediate expandable section is connected, said top section including a horizontal member which at its opposite ends forms the shoulders of said clown, the center of said member being attached to the upper end of said intermediate expandable section, a clown head being supported upon said member, said clown head being surmounted by a clown cap, said intermediate section being adaptable to lift said top section, a flexible fabric enclosing said lower section and said intermediate section arid which at its opposite sides and upper end is configurated into a pair of arms and hands, said fabric material being of sufficient length for said clown in an expandedposition, said intermediate section including a lazy tong fitted with an spring for urging said lazy tong from a contracted to an expanded position, a front side of said clown being provided with a pushbutton-for releasing said spring, said spring excrossing link components of said lazy tong.
