BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,555, dated February 28, 1888.
Application filed November 25, 1887. Serial No. 256,095. (No model.) Patented in Germany December 30, 1886, No. 40,363, and in France January 31, 1887, No. 181,243.
To a whom it 'nmy concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST PRYM, of Stolberg, near Aachen, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Buckles, (for which I have obtained patent in Germany, No. 40,363, dated December 30, 1886, and in France, No. 181,243, dated January 31, 1887,) of which the following is a full and clear description.
My invention relates to a buckle being made of two pieces of sheet metal; and myinvention has for its purpose to prevent the tongue of the buckle from tearing the garment and from hurting ones fingers when locking it;
The manner in which I preferably carry out my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top View of my buckle when unlocked. Fig. 2 is a like view, the buckle being closed and applied to a garment. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line was of Fig. 2. Fig. 418 a sectional view on line y y of same figure. Fig. 5 is a top view of the buckle when locked. Fig. 6 is an end view seen from the side-of the clamping part. Fig. 7 shows the sheet metal which the clamp-bearing is made of.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the views.
A is the bearing against which the clamp d rests when locked and when a strap end is passed between. This bearing is made of sheet metal and with two side arms, a a, bent to right angles with regard to part A. The side arms end in hooks c c, which serve as bearings for the clamping part I).
D is provided with a loop, (1, for fastening the one end, G, of a strap, garter, or the like. The loop extends to the sides of the clamp, so that the hooks c 0 may well inclose the latter at (Z (1 The tongue-bearing A is bent in the form of a U when viewed in section, and is provided at its upper side with a recess, Z), into which the free end F of the strap is pressed by the dull tongue d without the latter penetrating the strap. (See Fig. 4.)
The greater the strain that is exercised upon the strap the more securely the free end F of the strap will be clamped by tongue (1 without tearing it. My buckle is therefore well adapted to lic nsed for personal wear.
Having now fully explained and described the nature of my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a buckle made of sheet metal, consisting of a clamping part, D, provided with an extending prong, d, and of a Ushaped prong-bearing, A, having a recess, 1), on one side to be entered by a strap, F, and prong d, and two side arms,
- a a, ending in hooks c 0, serving as a bearing for the clamping part D, substantially in the manner and for the purpose as described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a buckle made of sheet metal, consisting of a clamping part, D, provided with a loop, (2, and an extending prong, d, and of a Ushapcd prong-bearing, A, having a recess, I), on one side, to be entered by strap F and prong d, and two side arms, a a, ending in hooks c 0, serving as a bearing for the clamping part D, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
AUG UST PRYM.
