SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,799, dated Why 10, 1887.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ADOLPH WAHRA, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to buckles, and will be fully described hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved buckle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on line 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line so :0, Fig. 2; and Figs. 4 and 5 are detailsectional views.

A is the frame of the buckle. B is the tongue-frame, and G is the tongue.

0 is the hinge'sleeve of the tongue, that encircles the cross bar I) of the buckle-frame. The tongue-frame is made with a loop, I), for the strap 0, which, as shown in Fig. 4, is secured about the hinge-sleeve. The sides of the buckleframe, at the rear thereof, are provided with inwardly-projecting flanges a, to receive the sides of the tongue-frameand relieve the tongue ofundue strain. These flanges may be made more or less abrupt, according to the style of buckle. For instance, they may be inclined, as shown in Fig. 5.

The-advantages I claim for my construction are as follows: The tongue-frame receives the strap, and the tongue proper can be made very much shorter than heretofore, and will be less liable to spring through the buckle-frame under great strain, and this liability is still fur ther decreased by the bearing of the tongueframe on the flanges of the buckleframe. Another advantage lies in the fact that as the strap is secured about the hinge-sleeve the latter will take the friction that would otherwise come on the strap, and the strap will last a great deal longer than Where it bears directly on the crossbar of the ordinary buckle.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with a buckle-frame, of a tongue having in one piece therewith a loop that terminates in a sleeve to engage the rear cross-bar of the buckle-frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with a buckle frame having flanges that project inwardly from its sides at the rear thereof, of a tongue having in one piece therewith a loop that terminates in a sleeve to engage the rear cross bar of the buckle-frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
