SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,548, dated September 6, 1.887.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that L'EDWARD WESLEY PAR- RISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hico, in the county of Galloway and State of Kentucky, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Hopples, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in hopples; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the same, which will be more fullyhereinafterdescribed, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hopple, shown adjusted upon an animal. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of the hopple removed from the animal. v

A indicates the belly-band, and A the backband, which parts are adjustably connected, as shown. To the top central portion of the back-band A two buckles, a a, are attached, which are adj ustably engaged by two straps, a, secured to the neck-halter B. The two ends of the neck-halter B are adj ustably connected to the martingale G, which in turn is adjustably secured in connection with the belly-band A. At the point adjacent to the attachment of the two ends of the neok-halter B to the martingale 0 two straps, O O, are secured to said martingale and project outwardly therefrom at right angles.

Secured to the belly-band A in close proximity to the point of attachment of the martingale G thereto are the ends of two straps, D D, said straps D D having adjustable loops d d formed therewith, which are adapted to be passed arou id the fore legs of the animal.

Attached to the loops d are buckles d, which are adapted to be engaged by the ends of the said straps 0. All the parts of my improvement are adjustable, and buckles will be applied at all points, whereby a ready adjustment may be obtained.

The back and belly bands having been adj usted on the animal, the neck-halter B isthen secured and adjusted with relation to the martingale C. The loops cl d of the straps D are then adjusted around the fore legs of the animal and secured. The two straps O C are then tightened, which will have the tendency to limit the movement of the anirnals fore legs, as will be readily understood.

This improvement will prevent the animal upon which it is used from jumping or kicking by limiting the movement of the fore legs, the straps O 0 being tightened for said limitation.

The novelty and utility of my improved device being obviously apparent and appreciable,

.it is unnecessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The improved hopple herein described and shown, comprising the belly-band A and bacle band A, adjust-ably connected, the buckles a, secured to the back-band, the neck-halter B, the straps co,secured to the neck-halter and adjustably engaging the buckles a,the martingale 0, adj ustably secured to the belly-band and the neck-halter, the straps D,secured to the bellyband and having the loops d, and the straps O C, secured to the martingale and adjustably connected to the loops (1 of the straps D, substantially as specified.
