CHARLES A. HQWVELL, OF ADRIAN, MICHIGAN.
CUFF-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,685, dated June 28, 1887.
Application filed January 15, 1887. Serial No. 224,452.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. HOWELL, of Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cuff-Holders, of which'the following is a specification.
My invention consists in an improvement in cutfholders, hereinafter fully described.
Figure 1 is a plan, Fig. 2, a side elevation; Fig. 3, a section through a cuff and part of a sleeve, showing niyiiivention in position;and Fig. 4 is a plan view of part of my invention.
I make my cuff-holder out of a piece of spring sheet metal, such as brass, having a round button part, 1, from which it extends upward nearly at right angles, as shown at 7, then runs parallel with 1, as shown at 2, and is bent over to form a spring, as shown at 3, and having also a slight indentation, 10, in the upper surface of 3, under the point of the pin 4, hereinafter mentioned, into which that part of the pin above the plate 3 may sink and rest.
4 represents a'pin whose shank is riveted to part 2 and passes through a hole in part 3, and has its point turned over toward the end of part 3.
5 represents a cuff having a button-hole a 8, and 6 represents a portion of a sleeve.
In using my invention button 1 is slipped through the button-hole in the cuff, so that (No model.)
part 7 passes through said hole. The cuff is then slipped within the sleeve, and part 3 pressed so that it leaves the point of pin 4. The point of the pin is pressed into the inner surface of the sleeve, and spring is then released and drawn out of the sleeve without the pin catching in the sleeve.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
V A cuff-holder consisting of the spring-metal piece 1, 2, and 3, bent at an angle, as shown at 7, and the pin 4, riveted to part 2, having its point turned down and lying closely in the indentation sunk in the'upper part of 3, substantially as shown and described. 7
CHARLES A. HOWELL.
