VELOGIPEDE HANDLE BAR FASTENING. No. 363,354. Patented May 24, 1887.

WITNESSES INVENTOR.
ITED
CZESAR R. BANNIHR, OF WEST CHESHIRE, CONNECTICUT.
VELOCIPEDE -HANDLE-BAR FASTENING SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 363,354, dated May 24, 1887.
Application filed July 2, 1886. Serial No, 206,916. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OmsAR R. BANNIHR, a citizen of the United States, residing at XVest Cheshire, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Securing Device for Velocipede Handle- Bars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in velocipede handlebars of the kind which pass througi1,or being connected on each side of the steering-head of a velocipede, either by means of a screw and nut, or by being keyed in, or without either the handle-bar being put in on a straight fit, or by passing through a hole in the steering-head of a velocipede.
The object of my invention is to secure the handle-bars of a velocipede steering-head without using any of the above-described means, or in case where these means have been applied, but where by accident or otherwise the handlebar has been broken off. I attain this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a steeringhead and handle-bars of a velooipede, showing the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the invent-ion as applied to thehandle-bar.
. Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
The steering-head A and handlebarsB con-- stitute the parts of a velocipede to which the improvement is to be applied, which consists of a yoke, C, with a clamp on each end, D, by which means it is secured to the handle-bars. This clamp can be supplied with a screw, cam-lever, wedge, or key; but I prefer to use a screw, as shown at a, which, together with the gibs c, conformed to the handle-bar, and the projecting claw b, reaching around the gibs c and handlebar B, form the clamp, which need not necessarily be of the same piece as the yoke C, as shown in the drawings, but may be screwed on in whatever direction the handle to which it is to be applied will require.
The yoke C may be of any desired shape to fit the different make of steering-heads and handle-bars.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a velocipede having handle bar or bars connected with the steeringhead, the yoke C, reaching across the steering-head and having a clamp at each end, thus securely connecting the handle bar or bars to the steering-head and to each other in case of a two-part bar, whether by original intentionor as a means of repair, substantially as herein set forth and described.
CZESAR It. BANNIHR.
