CROWN-PIECE FOR BRID LES OR HALTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,541, dated March 1, 1887.
Application filed January 10,1887. Serial No 223,904. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL T. CHAMBERS, of Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Orownlieces for Bridles and Halters, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a crownpiece for bridles and halters which shall connect with the cheek-strap, blinds, and throat-latch, but which shall be stamped out of one piece of leather, thereby avoiding the expense of stitching, as well as the discomfort to the horse caused by the lapping of two or I 5 more thicknesses of leather at the joints.
My invention consists in the peculiar construction of the crown-piece, whereby there is attained an improved form of crownpiece and the most economical cutting of the stock. In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the plan View of the crown-piece as stamped with a die or cutter from a plain blank or side of leather. Fig. 2 shows the application of the crown-piece to the bridle on a horses head. In the figures, A A and A A represent two symmetrically shaped loops having pear shaped openings which fit over the ears of the horse. Arranged in the same axial line and at the opposite extremities of these loops are formed the tabs or ends I) and b, which form a connection for the cheek-straps of the bridle.
7 Upon one side (the rear side) of each loop is formed a tab or end, a and a, which afford a connection for the throat-latch. Upon the front side of the loops is formed the continu- 5 ous band B, running from loop to loop, which constitutes the brow-band of the bridle, while inside the segment formed within the band B, and radiating from the center of the crownpiece. are two divergent tabs or ends, G 0, 0 which connect with the blinders ot' the bridle.
All the parts shown in Fig. l are stamped or cut out of a single piece of leather in one operation by a correspondiugly-shaped die or cutter. 5
In fitting the crown-piece in a bridle all the parts adapt themselves to their natural positions, the brow band B being dampened and its inner edge expanded slightly to adapt it to the proper shape.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is The crown-piece for a bridle or halter, con sisting of the symmetrical loops A A, with tabs or ends a I), a b, and O O, and the browband B, extending from loop to loop, substan tially as and for the purpose described.
D ANl EL '1. CHAMBERS.
