Description

W. GOGGESHALL.
Plow No. 35,415. Patented May 27. 1862.
ily adjusted to regulate the depth of the furwhich is bent downward and forked, so that of the plow, as shown at 0. The beam F of its back part, c, is curved in semicircular form,
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
W. GQGGESHALL, 0F FINDLAY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND W. T. GOGGESHALL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,415, dated May 27, 1862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W. UOGGESHALL, of Findlay, in the county ot Hanoock and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful 1m- ,provement in Flows; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view ofa plow constructed according to my invention Fig. 2, a plan or top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
This invention relates to an improvement in the draft-beam of the plow, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby it-js believed that the draft of the plow ismuch dccreased below that of ordinary plows in use, and the plow rendered capable of being readrow, as circumstances may require.
To enable those skilled in the. art to fully understand and construct my invention, [will proceed to describe it.
A represents the mold-board of the plow, B the share, 0 O the handles, and D the landside.
The front part of the landside extends upward above the mold-board A, and is curved forward, as shown at a in Fig. 1. To the front end of the part a of the landside thereis attached, by a pivot, b, a rod, E, the front end of it may fit over the upper edge of the beam F the plow is straight at its front part, 01, but
and isattached at its lower end to the lower part of the landside D, near its front end, by a bolt, f. The curved part c of the beam is also fitted in guides g 9, attached to the inner surface of the landside. The front part, 01, of the beam is perforated with a series of holes, h,-through anyone of which and the fork cof therod E a bolt, 0', passes, said bolt connectiug the rodEwith the beam F.
The beam and rod are both of metal, and the draft-animals are attached to the front end of the beam in the usual or in any proper way.
G represents the colter, the upper part of which is secured by a key, j, in a socket, H, at the right-hand side of the front part, a, of the landsid'e D.
From the above description it will be seen that the line of the draft of the plow may be varied as desired by adjusting the bolt 1; in the beam F nearer to or farther from its front end, the front end, of the beam being elevated when the boltiis placed in the back holes rod E and beam F thus connected admit of--- the draft being transmitted in the most favorable manner to the plow to insure an easy movement of the same, for the attachment of the rod E being at the upper part, a, of the landside D, and the attachment of the beam F at the lower part of the landside, it will be seen that there will be an equal pull both above and below, and the plow is made to run steady without being liable to tilt either downward or upward under the draft movement. The draft also is much decreased in consequence, and a strong and durable plow obtained.
1 do not claim, separately, a curved beam, for they have been used nor do Iclaim, sepaarately, any of the parts herein specified; but
I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentw. OOGGESHALL.
