BOTTLEFAUC ET.
PECEE'ICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,150, dated December 14, 1886.
Application filed February 8, 1886. Serial No. 191,108. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom. t may concern:
Beit known that l, CHARLES T. JONES, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Bottle-Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
This faucet is adapted to be screwed into and out a hole through the bottle-cork, and to draw off the content-s of the bottle gradually;
1o and this device is especially adapted to effervescing liquids in bottles.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical section of the screw-tube and an elevation of the faucet-pipe. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the handle and stufiing-box, and Fig. 3 shows the end ofthe screw-tu be in larger size.
The tubeais made with asharp cut-ting end, b, and a screw-thread, c, around it, and the crosshead or handle cl is fastened tlrmly to the 2o upper end of this screw-tube. The tube e passes freely through the screw-tube a, and it is provided with a faucet,f, and dischargepipe g, and there is a recess in the handle around thetube e, for the reception of the packing material h, and a screw plug or fol lower, i, for compressing the packing material around the tube@ and forming a tight stuffingbox.
Whenthe faucet is to be inserted into a 3o bottle, the tube e is drawn along, so that its lend is within the screw-tube a, and this screwtube is driven into the cork and rotated by the handle, and it cuts its way through the cork and becomes rmlyscrewed into the cork.
The tube e is now forced down into the bottle and carries with it any pieces of cork therev may be Within the tube c. The faucet f being at the top end of this tubee is a great convenience in forcing the tube down into the bottle.
Any desired amount of liquid is now drawn 4o from the bottle, and the atmosphere is entirely excluded.
By placing a faucet-plug, 7c, in the head or handle below the packing h the same can be closedb and the tube inserted into the cork, after which the tube eis passed through the packing 71, and then the cock 7c is opened and the tube e forced down into the bottle.
The faucetf may be at the end of the discharge-pipe g, and only a bulb or head at the 5o upper end of the pipe e, into which the pipe g also passes.
The faucetf may be dispensed with, as the tube e can be drawn up after the contents are drawn and the cock 7c closed. 55
In cases where a cutting-edge has been used at the lower end of a screw-tube, such screw has been tapering. In aerated waters, especially, the cork has to be driven in so firmly that it is dil'iicult to force the tapering screw 60 through the same. By making 'the tubular screw parallel on the exterior surface with the cutter at the end the cork is penetrated much easier than heretofore.
I claim as my invention- The combination, withvthe screw-tube a, having a cutting-edge at one end, of a crosshead at the upper end and a faucet-plug, 7c, the packing h, and the tube e, passing through the packing and through the screw-tube, sub- 7o stantially as set forth.
Signed by nie this 29th day of January, A.
CHARLES T. JONES.
