JOHN S. DIGKEY AND XVILLIAM P. MCKINNEY, OF PAYNE, TEXAS.
BEDSTEAD-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 346,646, dated August 3, 1886.
Serial No. 193,871. (No model.)
in rigid vertical position, and that the side To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN S. DIGKEY and WILLIAM l. McKINNEY, of Payne, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented anew and Improved Bedstead-Fasteir er, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to the construction of a fastener for bedsteads, the object of the invention being to provide a fastener by which the parts are firmly held together and prevented from springing; and to these ends the invention consists of certain details of construction and combinations of parts, to be hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a bedstead provided with our improved fastening attachment; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, taken on line :0 a: of Fig. 1.
With such a fastening device as is illustrated in the drawings above referred to, the various parts of the bedstead are held together by a system of wires connected to the parts, whereby all of the ordinary forms of fastening devices are dispensed with. The strands of the wires D D are slightly separated at the center, and through these separations there is passed a bolt, H, washers h h being arranged as shown, and the bolt H being engaged by a nut, I, which may be turned upon the bolt to vary the tension upon the system of connectingwires.
From the construction described it will be seen that the posts of the bedstead will be held panels and head and foot boards will be kept from springing, and, further, that all of the wires will be kept from spreading. Should the wires forming the fastening spread or stretch from long-continued usage, any slack so produced could be taken up by tightening the nut I.
We are aware that crossed wires have been secured to the head and foot posts and to plates on bolts, secured to the side rails about midway the length of the said rails, the said I bolts being provided with thumb-nuts, and we are also aware that wires have been secured to the head and foot posts, the said wires being passed through staples on the side rails and provided at about the middle of their length with plates, through which a tightening-bolt passes, and we therefore do not claim such inventions.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the posts A A, provided with the eyes a a, the side rails, B B, provided with the eyes 0, and the foot and head boards 0 0, provided with the eyes (Z,
of the wires D D, secured to the eyes a a, the
wires E F, passed through the eyes 0 (i, respectively, and secured to the wires D D, the bolt H, passed through the wires D D, and the not 1 on the said bolt, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOHN s. DIOKEY. WILLIAM, P. MCKINNEY.
