BED BOTTOM AND BRAC E.
Patented Dec. 15, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
"TVALTER HAMOND LIGHTFOOT, OFNVENTWVORTII, TEXAS.
BED BOTTOM AND BRACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 4o5,182,dated December 15, 1891.
Application filed April 30, 1891. Serial No. 391,116. (No model.)
To all whom itmay concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER HAMOND LIGH'IFOOT, a citizen of the United States, re-
siding at Wentworth, in the county of Sutton and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Bed Bottom and Brace, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in bedsteads. V
The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of bedsteads and provide efficient and durable means for securing the slats to the bedstead and for securing the parts of the bedstead together.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a bedstead constructed in accordance .with this invention. Fig. 2 is a reverse plan view. Fig. 3 is a detailsectional view on line x a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the clips and the coupling-bolt.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a bedstead consisting of a headboard 2, afoot-board 3, and side rails 4 connecting the head and foot boards. The slats 5 are disposed longitudinally and are connected and made into a frame by cross-bars 6, arranged beneath the slats and secured to them. The slat-frame is secured to the bedstead, and the parts of the latter are secured together by clips 7 and 8, bolted, respectively, to the corners of the slat-frame and to the posts of the head and foot boards. The clips 7 are U-shaped and are secured to the upper and lower faces of the side slat-s and the end cross-bars, and the clips 8 are semicircular and have their ends bent at an angle and arranged in the same plane and are perforated and bolted to the inner faces of the posts of the bedstead. Both the clips 7 and 8 are diagonally disposed, and they are connected by a coupling-bolt 9, and they are provided with perforations to receive the couplingbolt 9, which has its'head engaging the clip 7 and its nut 10 engaging the inner face of the clip 8. By screwing and unscrewing the nut 10 of the coupling-bolt the bedstead may be tightened and loosened, as desired.
It will readily-be seen that the means for securing the slats to the bedstead serves to securely hold the parts of the bedstead together, and that the slats are longitudinally disposed, which makes the bedstead more comfortable than is the case when the slats are transversely arranged.
Vhat I claim is The combination, with a bedstead, of the slat-frame, the semicircular clips 8, secured to the posts of v the bedstead, the U-shaped clips 7, attached to the slat-frame, and the adjustable coupling-bolts connecting the clips 7 and S, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WALTER HAilIOND LIGII'IFOOT.
