A41d 1/06, 13/02 AIISTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and more particularly relates to improvements in womens sportswear apparel.

--In the construction of womens sportswear apparel convenientfprovis'ion has not heretofore been made for the wearer to conduct the necessary bodily functions of excretion of waste materials with a minimum of inconvenience and a maximum of modesty. These functions must often be conducted in-such, inconvenient circumstances as, for example, in a boat far from shore, at a campsite or on a ski outing. I Garments presently available, although they may provide a means to conduct these functions quickly and efficiently, do not provide a suitable inner garment cooperable with the outer garment. 1

With these comments in mind it is to the elimination of these and other disadvantages to which the present invention is directed, along with the inclusion therein of other novel anddesirable features.

An object of my invention is to provide a new and improved sportswear garment of simple and inexpensive construction and operation.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a sportswear garment which allows the wearer to conduct normal bodily functions with a minimum of exposure and a maximum of modesty and convenience.

Still another object of my invention is the provision of an outer garment in combination with an inner garment, which inner garment affords the wearer maximum comfort and suitable lining between the outer garment and the wearer, and also provides the wearer with relatively convenient and eflicient means, as well as privacy, to conduct normal bodily functions.

These and other objects and advantages of my invention will more fully appear from the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like reference characters refer to the same or similar parts throughout the several views, and in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the front of the garment of my invention showing the garment on a mannequin.

FIG. 2 is a front perspective view of my garment exposing the front of the crotch zipper.

FIG. 3 is a rear perspective view exposing the rear of the crotch zipper.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the garment of my invention with the garment turned inside out, exposing the under garment front portion with the closure open.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of my invention with the garment turned inside out, exposing the rear portion of the under garment with the closure open.

FIG. 6 is an enlarged front perspective view showing a breakaway of the construction of my garment with the crotch zipper partially open. 1

One form of the present invention isshown in the drawings and is described herein.

Referring to FIG. 1, the mannequin 10 is shown as a female torso having a properly fitted blouse 11 and proper 1y fitted Bermuda shorts 12 fitted thereon. The waist band 13 is shown cinching the shorts 12 about the waist of the mannequin 10. A side zipper is indicated at dotted line 14 as covered by the side fly 15, properly concealing the side zipper. The front portion of the crotch zipper-16 is indicated by the dotted line with the crotch zipper fiy 17 properly concealing zipper 16. Soft pleats are indicated at 18. l p

Referring now to FIG. 2, crotch zipper fly 17 is shown folded back revealing the front portion of crotch zipper 16. Shorts 12 generally comprise a left front panel 19 and a right front panel 20, Right rear panel 21 and left rear panel 22 are shown in FIG. 3 with rear soft leats indicated by numeral 23. The right front panel 20 is joined to the right rear panel 21, in the conventional manner, along the outer upright seam 24. Left front panel 19 is joined to left rear panel 22 along the outside seam'line 25. Inner leg seam 26 connects front and rear right panels 20 and 21 and inner leg seam 27 connects front and rear left panels 19 and 22. The back seam 28 connects right rear panel 21 with left rear panel 22. Waist band 13 joins the four aforementioned panels, completing the construction of the outer garment. Suitable darts may, of course, be included to afford proper fitting, as well as hems and other adornments such as pockets, none of which are shown in the drawings. r I

The under garment, indicated in general by numeral 29 in FIG. 4, is constructed from suitable materials such as a cotton knit. The under garment comprises a right front panel indicated by numeral 30 and a left front panel indicated by numeral 31. Referring to FIG. 5, a right rear panel is indicated at numeral 32 and a left rear panel as indicated at numeral 33. The under garment panels are disposed in overlapping relation with the overlapping layers generally in registry with crotch zipper 16. Right front under garment panel 30 is connected to right rear under garment panel 33 along the stitched line 34. Left front under garment panel 31 is connected to left rear under garment panel 32 along the side seam 35. Inner leg seams 26 and 27 join the respective front and rear panels of the under garment with the front and rear panels of the outer garment 12. This secures the under garment to the outer garment at the crotch thereby preventing riding up of the inner garment, yet allowing the wearer to fold back the inner garment along the crotch area.

Crotch zipper 16 is shown completely open in FIGS. 4 and 5, providing an opening between the legs of garment 12. This opening is indicated in general at numeral 36. Since the waist band 13 remains cinched about the waist of the wearer, the garment 12 need not be removed from about the legs of the wearer in order to provide opening 36.

FIG. 6 shows a breakaway of the detail of the construction of the wearing apparel of my invention with the crotch zipper 16 partially open along the front of the garment. The inner or under garment is indicated at numeral 29 with the breakaway of the outer garment exposing left and right rear panels 32 and 33 respectively. Waist band 13 is shown joining the respective panels of 'the outer garment with the respective panels of the under garment. Stitch lines 26 and 27 join the under garment to the outer garment. In all other respects, the inner garment is free from the outer garment to afford a more form fitting relation with the wearer of the combination inner and outer garment, FIG. 7 shows the detail of the leg construction which is free at the outside seam 35 of the under garment, allowing the under garment to cling closely to the leg of the wearer, yet is attached at seam 26 to prevent riding up of the leg portion formed by panels 30 and 33 of the under garment.

The garment of my invention is worn with the crotch zipper 16 in closed position. To put on the garment the wearer need only disassemble waist band 13, which may be snapped or hooked in a readily available manner which is not shown, and release zipper 14 at the side of the garment. The waist band 13 is then cinched at the waist of the wearer and zipper 14 is closed with fiy 15 concealing the zipper. When the wearer wishes to take advantage of the opening 36, fly 17 is turned back exposing zipper 16 which may be opened, thereby providing opening 36. This, of course, may be done without the necessity of removing, or even lowering, the garment 12. After the wearer has taken advantage of opening 36, crotch zipper 16 may be closed and fly 17 is released, concealing zipper 16.

While the invention has been illustrated and described in detail in the drawings and foregoing description, the same is to be considered as illustrative and not restrictive in character, it being understood that only the preferred embodiment has been shown and described. It is contemplated that the combination of the under garment or lining garment with the outer garment having a crotch zipper, may be provided in mens wear as well as in women's wear and may, in fact, find convenient uses in garments adapted for the military, particularly military personnel on bivouac or stationed in colder climates. It is anticipated that men and women of the US. Armed Forces could achieve a high degree of maneuverability utilizing fatigues and dungarees constructed as shown by my invention. The fighting man, particularly, would welcome my construction in that he is not immobilized when performing the normal bodily functions.

It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in form, details, arrangement and proportions of the various parts without departing from the scope of my invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A garment adapted to be worn covering the lower portion of the torso, said garment comprising,

an outer garment having a front portion and a rear portion, the rear portion affixed to the front portion defining a pair of leg openings and a waist opening, said outer garment having a crotch opening therein extending downwardly from said waist opening and spaced therefrom, the crotch opening extending between the leg openings and rearwardly substantially into the rear portion of said outer garment,

an under garment corresponding to said outer garment and having a pair of front panels and a pair of rear panels defining a pair of leg openings and a waist opening, said panels being disposed in generally overlapping relation providing an opening in said under garment between said leg openings and extending substantially forwardly and rearwardly of said leg openings in substantial registry with said crotch opening in said outer garment,

a waist band adapted to be cinched about the waist of the torso, said waist band being affixed to the waist defining opening of said outer garment and said under garment, and

crotch opening closure means disposed in said outer garment adapted to close said crotch opening in said outer garment.

2. The invention of claim 1 in which said under garment is affixed to said outer garment along the inside seams of said leg defining openings.
