INVENTOR.
ROBERT A. CLARK Q mar United ates Paw 3,409,340 COMBINED TISSUE AND TOWEL DISPENSER Robert A. Clark, Allentown, Pa., assignor to Caloric Corporation, Topton, Pa., a corporation of Pennsylvania Filed Aug. 4, 1965, Ser. No. 477,122 2 Claims. (Cl. 312-39) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cabinet, for dispensing soft tissues for facial use and towels for hand use. The cabinet is not limited to the use of towel rolls of a diameter larger than the depth of the cabinet. The door is detachable for ease in re loading.
A cabinet having an open face and a door detachably hinged at its upper edge to the cabinet, and having an upper opening affording access to a package of facial tissues carried by the inner side of the door, and having a lower opening affording access to a towel roll carried by the cabinet. The lower portion of the door rests on the towel roll and thus does not limit the diameter of the roll, which can be used to the depth of the cabinet.
My invention relates to a combined tissue and towel dispenser of the type used in kitchens, bath-rooms, and other places where relatively light and soft tissues and relatively heavy and coarse towels are needed.
One object of the invention is to produce an improved dispenser of the type set forth.
Presently, it is the practice to provide a tissue dispenser in the form of a container from which individual, prefolded tissue napkins may be successively withdrawn, and to suspend a towel roll on brackets or the like which are secured to a wall or other support, and from which pre-scored portions may be torn.
It is therefore a further object of the invention to provide a single container, or cabinet, which scores and dispenses tissues and towels.
An exposed paper towel roll is rather unsightly in any event, but more so in modern, streamlined and aesthetically designed and equipped kitchens and bath-rooms.
It is therefore a still further object of the invention to produce an improved tissue and towel dispenser which is compact and attractive and which whooly encloses the tissue container and the paper towel roll.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the following specification and the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a combined tissue and towel dispenser embodying the invention.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view looking in the direction of line 22 on FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is an enlargement of the upper portion of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view looking in the direction of line. 4-4 on FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a rear perspective view of the cabinet door shown detached.
A combined tissue and towel dispenser embodying the invention comprises a cabinet formed of a back wall 12, side walls 14, a top wall 16, and a bottom wall 18. The front edges of walls 14, 16 and 18 coact to define a front opening which is normally closed by a door 20. Door 20 is formed of a front wall 21, side walls 25 and 3,409,340 Patented Nov. 5, 1968 a top wall 28 which define a box-like structure which coacts with the cabinet as follows:
Door 20 is pivotally and detachably mounted in position by means of slots 22 which are formed in side walls 24, and which engage studs 26 which are carried by side walls 14. To permit mounting and de-mounting of the door, sufficient clearance is provided between the top wall 28 of the door and top wall 16 of the cabinet. Slot-s 22 are so arranged that, when unrestrained, the door assumes a substantially vertical position.
On its inner side, the front wall 21 of door 20 is provided with a horizontal shelf 30 which is adapted to support a box 32 containing tissue or napkins 33, access to which is had through upper opening 34. The napkin containing box is held in position, firmly, but removably, by tabs 35 which are lanced out of wings 37 of shelf 30. The metal from which shelf 30 and wings 37 are made and the shape of the wings provides a yielding pinching effect which prevents unintended displacement of the napkin box.
Below shelf 30 is a pair of brackets 36 which are secured to side walls 14 of the cabinet and which carry studs 3-8 for engaging the cardboard sleeve which carries paper towel roll 40. Instead of providing a special slot through which the leading end 42 of the paper towel roll may be threaded, the lower edge of the door is cut away as at 44 so as to provide a slot through which the end 42 of the towel roll projects.
To load the dispenser, door 20 is removed, a towel roll 40 is mounted on trunnions 38, a full tissue container 32 is placed on shelf 30', and the door is replaced. When the paper towel roll is new, it has a large diameter, and the door in its closed position, will be somewhat slanted. As the diameter of the towel r-oll decreases, the door assumes a progressively more vertical position. In any event, the tissue container and towel roll are both concealed, and the towels pulled out are cut off either by pulling up against the lower edge 44 of the door or by pulling down against the front edge of bottom wall 18 of the cabinet.
What I claim is:
1. A tissue and towel dispenser including:
a cabinet having an open front compartment for receiving a towel supply and having opposed forwardly extending side walls,
a door for closing the front of said cabinet and carrying on its inner surface a container for receiving a supply of tissue,
said door having a first opening affording access to the tissue supply carried in the container on the back thereof and a second opening affording access to the towel supply in said compartment, and
means removably hinging the upper end of said door to the upper end of said cabinet whereby said door assumes its closing position by gravity, said hinging means comprising a pair of rearwardly extending side walls and a top wall all of which interfit within said compartment, a pair of opposed upwardly and forwardly extending slots one in each of said sidc walls of the door near the top thereof, and a pair of opposed inwardly extending studs mounted one in each of the opposed side walls of the compartment, the
. i V" ,3 dvlv'lu slots'erigging respe'ctive'studs whereby the door is 2,738,848 removably hingedly mounted on the compartment. 2,948,451
2. The dispenser defined in claim 1 wherein said second 2,805,112
opening is formed by spacing the lower edge of said door from the lower edge of the compartment. 5
