u rmwmmrnwwmmll I NVE N TOR. e/ Hank/m [Ml/500 United States Patent O 3,392,606 DUAL I-IANDSAW FILE Reid Franklin Wilson, 218 Triangle Lake Road, High loint, NC. 27260 Filed Nov. 20, 1967., Ser. No. 684,464 4 Claims. (Cl. 76-36) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tool for hand tiling saw blades having a pistol grip portion for holding the tool with a barrel portion on top which is internally threaded and receives an externally threaded barrel is secured to a pair of scissor-like arms by length of the tiles to be used with the tool. The externally threaded barrel is secured to a pair of sissor-like arms by a wing headed screw, the lower portions of the scissorlike arms having a ball in each end which secures one end of the les to the tool. This tool also has a tongue member in front of the handle, a cradle being terminated at the end of the tongue. The opposite ends of the iles are carried within the cradle and a key bar is grooved to lit the shape of the tiles, is secured to the cradle by a screw.
This invention relates to hand tools, and more particularly to a dual handsaw file.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a handsaw le which will have a pistol type grip for receiving the hand of the user, an internally threaded barrel and an externally threaded barrel providing a means for shortening or lengthening the saw file, in order to accommodate les of various lengths.
Another object of this invention is to provide a dual handsaw file which will have at its extreme forward end a pair of scissor-like arm members, the arm members allowing for a change of pitch so as to accommodate the handsaw tile to saw blades of various pitches.
A further object of this invention is to provide a dual handsaw le which secures the files to the scissor-like arms by ball means at one end and the other ends of the files are secured to the tool by a key bar which is secured in place by screw means.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide a dual handsaw iile tool which will accommodate various saw blades and this tool substantially reduces the time of the tiling operation of a saw blade while imparting a more uniform pattern of filing which therefore reduces the cost of a saw ling operation.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a dual handsaw ile tool which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily apparent upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of the present invention shown in elevation;
FIGURE 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the lines 2 2 of FIGURE l;
FIGURE 3 is an end view of FIGURE 1 showing the scissor-like construction of the dual iile holders; and
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along the lines 4-4 of FIGURE 1 showing the ball member for securing the files.
According to this invention, a dual handsaw file is provided with a pistol-grip-type handle 11 to which is attached an internally threaded barrel 12, an elongated and externally threaded barrel 13 being threaded into barrel 12 for increasing or decreasing the length of handsaw tile 10. A screw 14 with a winged head 1S is received within a collar `16 and provides a means of lengthening 3,392,5@65 Patented July 16, i958 or shortening handsaw file 10. Collar 16 has a pair of scissor-like arms 17, the end portions 18 having an opening 19 for receiving a ball 20 which secures the pair of les 21 at one end of handsaw` file 1G. A pair of spaced apart grooves 22 receive and position les 21 within the key bar 23. The upper portion of le 21 are positioned within groove 24 of cradle tongue 25. The upper tongue portion 25 provides up and down adjustment for handsaw tile 10 by means of screw 26 which is received within an elongated slot 27. The barrel 12 is secured to the upper tongue portion 25 by winged screw 281.
It will be noted that the balls 20 are of hardened cork or rubber in order to stand varying degrees of pressure when using handsaw file 10.
It shall further be noted that a screw 29 secures the key bar 23 against the tiles 21.
In use, the length of the internally screw barrels 12 and 13 are adjusted by means of screw 14 in order to accommodate any particular length and pitch of tiles 21. When the balls 20 lock one end of the files 21 into handsaw `file 10, the other ends of file 21 are secured by means of key bar 23 by means of screw 29. The user grips the pistol grip handle 11 in a well known manner and applies the les 21 to the teeth of a saw in a well known fashion.
While various changes may be made in the detailed construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is dened by the appended claims.
What I now claim is:
1. A dual handsaw file tool comprising a pistol-type handle grip member, an internally threaded barrel member, an externally threaded barrel member carried within said internally threaded barrel providing adjustment means for the length of different saw tiles, a pair of scissor-like arms carried by said tool at one end for adjusting said tool to the pitch of the saw teeth to be tiled, a pair of les carried by said tool for sharpening saw teeth, a tongue member and a key bar carried by said tool, providing positioning and securement means for said dual tile.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said internally threaded barrel member is positioned above and in the center of said pistol grip handle and said externally threaded barrel is screwed into said internally threaded barrel by means of a winged headed screw forwardly of said scissor-like arms of said tool, and a tongue member secured to said internally threaded barrel is adjustable upon said handle grip of said tool by a screw carried within an elongated slot of the tongue member.
`3. The combination according to claim 2 wherein a cradle portion of said tongue member at its lower extremity is grooved to fit the top edges of said dual les and the bottom portions of said dual tile are secured within a key bar of said tool, by a screw which is threaded into said cradle.
4. The combination according to claim 3 wherein each of the circular end portions of said scissor-like arms and ball means received within the opening of said end portion of said scissor-like arms are made of resilient material secure by pressure means those ends of said les within said end portions of said scissor-like arms.
