N. E. WBISELL.
FENGE.
No. 338,573. Patented Mar. 23, 18346.

OF VARREN, OHIO.
FENCE.
QPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,573, dated March 23, 1886.
Application tiled June 1l, 1895.
T0 @ZZ 20710711, it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELsoN E. WErsELL, a citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at W'arren, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in fences wherein a single truss rod or wire is used for supporting and bracing the same together with foot-rests, which are designed to be embedded in the ground, stone, cement, or any other hard or suitable material, forrmly securing the fence; and with these ends in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically claimed.
ln the annexed drawings, to which reference is made and which fully illustrate my invention, Figure l represents a perspective View of a section of fence embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents an end View thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail.
A A represent two posts or uprights, which are provided with holes t' near the upper ends thereof, their lower ends being securely nailed or fastened in any suitable manner to sills B B in the center thereof.
d d are suitable hanger, or supports for the rails, which are formed in the shape of the letter U, and e e are braces, so formed as to nearly resemble the letter X, both braces e e and supports or hangers d l being formed of a single wire. rlhe said wires are passed from the inside through the holes in the post, and are crossed on the outside, and have theirl ends secured to the braces near the end of the same, in any convenient manner. These posts A A are also provided with a series of staples, b Z1, spaced a predetermined distance apart, through which the same number of rings, c, are passed, and through the medium of which the posts A A are connected together their whole length. These staples serve, in connection with the cross braces, to rmly hold and strengthen the posts, and at the same time to support and hold a series of rails, O C C, resting upon them. The ends of the X-braces are secured to the ends of the sills in any suitable manner; but I prefer the means shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
By my construction of fence the same is made strong, durable, and simple, and the cost of manufacture is comparatively little, the parts being few in number and nothing expensive being required in its construction.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the parallel upright posts and the fence-rails located between the same, of the transverse binding-loops and the 'brace-wires passing under the lower rail, then upward through the post, and crossing each other on the outside, the ends being secured to the transverse base-beams, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I atti-X my signature in presence of two witnesses.
