Be it known that I, ALMANZOR B. BUTLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Albans, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying. drawings.

This invention is an improvement in that class of clamps usually employed in stocking and sleeve supporters.

It has for an object to provideaclamp which may be manufactured at small cost and will be efficient in use.

It has for a further object to so construct the clamp that no solder or rivet will be required in its manufacture, and it may be stamped out in condition .for use.

To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction of the clamps, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my clamp. Fig.2 is a longitudinal section of same, and Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views of a slightly modified form.

In constructing my clamp I employ a narrow strip of sheet metal, which is bent on itself at A, centrally between its ends, forming its arms B C, which are provided near their outer ends with interlocking projections and openings D and E, formed, preferably, in the manner present-1y described. These outer ends of arms B and O are given a tension apart or in opposite directions, as shown in Fig. 1.

The opening E is preferably formed entirely through the arm 0, and elongated transversely the length of the clamp, as thereby it enables the projection D,which is conformed to it, to take a stronger hold on the stocking, sleeve, or other article in the direction of strain.

A saddle of loop, F, is fitted to embrace the arms B G, and is adjustable longitudinally thereon, so as to interlock parts D and E, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, or open theclamp, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This saddle or loop maybea complete endless loop or only a strip of metal having its ends bent over the opposite edges of the two arms B and C. To prevent this saddle from being lost off the ends of the clamp,I form one or both arms thereof enlarged or with shoulders G, to prevent the movement of the saddle past certain points. The clamp is provided, near the junction of the arms B and O,with a slot, H, forming an eye, through which to pass a strap or other connection.

In the use of the clamp the saddle is adj usted back, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and the clamp is placed over the article to be secured, when by moving the saddle to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 4 the article will be secured. lVhile the construction and arrange ment before described is preferred, it is manifest that the arms B and 0 might be madeseparate and suitably secured together at the end A; also, that by giving the interlocking ends of arms B and O a tension toward each other, instead of apart, the saddle might be dispensed with; but this last construction would involve the spreading of arms B G apart by hand, while with the construction before described the arms spread apart automatically.

It will be noticed that the strip-forming arms B and C may be stamped out, and the saddle or loop also applied by machinery, so that the article may be manufactured at small cost.

I am aware that garment-holders have been known with spring-arms and projections on the end of each, so that when the keeper or ring is forced down to close the arms the projections will overlap each other, and I do not claim such, as my invention consists of a projection struck out from a flat plate or arm, and a corresponding opening in the opposite arm into which the projection protrudes, thus leaving surfaces of both arms or plates eX-- posed around the said projection and opening,
