UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEVI L. DEWEESE, OF CANTON, OHIO.
HITCHING-STRAP CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 330,213, dated November 10, 1885.
Application filed September 15, 1884. Serial No. 143,172. (No model.)
To all whom t Duty concern:
Be it known that I, LEvI L. DEWEESE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching-Strap Clamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures marked thereon, in Which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section showing the clamp attached to the strap but not clamped. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section showing the strap clamped. Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
The present invention has relation to hitching-strap clamps designed to remain on the strap when not in use; and its nature consists in a metallic frame provided with cross-bars, and a hinged lever, and in the several parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the side pieces of the clamp proper, which are substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3. Said side pieces are securely held together by the cross-bars B, (l, D, E, and F. The upper side of the cross-bars C and E may be slightly convex, so as to more securely hold the clamp on the strap when the lever G is in the position shown in Fig. l, and at the same time more securely clamping the strap when said lever G is placed in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The cross-bar F is concaved longitudinally, and may be bent or curved downward so as to more easily adj ust the strap.
The cross bar D is located as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, and is substantially of the form shown in said iigures.
The side pieces and cross-bars rrnay all be cast at one time, and form the frame of the Clamp.
On the cross-bar H of the side pieces, A, is hung the lever G, as seen in Fig. 3. This lever G is provided with the fluted. portion g, which is for the purpose of clamping the strap I, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, by means of the cross-bars D, E, and F.
In use the clamp proper is placed on the strap I at any place desired, as seen in Fig. 1, andthe end of the strap placed around a post or other object and thence through the clamp, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, when the lever G is placed in the position shown in said Figs. 2 and 3, thereby securely clamping the strap I and holding it in the position placed. To loosen the strap I, the lever G is thrown back, as seen in Fig. l, when the strap can be readily removed from the post or other object.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isM
The herein-described hitching-strap clamp, comprising theside pieces, A A, cross-bars B, C, D, E, F, and H, located as described, and the earn-lever G, pivoted on cross-bar H and operating to hold the strap in the :manner set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
LEVI L. DEWEESE.
