(Cl. 15-510) The present invention relates to a dispensing device for pulverized tailors chalk, and more particularly a dispensing apparatus for pulverized tailors chalk com-prising a casing, in the lower part of which is arranged a gear case having a delivery port for the pulverized chalk so as to allow the gear case to go up and down. In the said gear case are arranged .a gear, which vibrates a pulverized chalk vibrating rod fixed in the casing, and a shutter, which opens the delivery port for the pulverized chalk only when the gear case is pushed upward. In the said casing are formed a plurality of storing chambers for the chalk, the respective chambers being able to be turned to any desired position by operating a dial-cover arranged on the side of the said casing to bring above the gear case a delivery section in the lower end of one of the storing chambers.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a dispensing apparatus for pulverized tailors chalk wherein the said chalk coming out of the casing through the gear case to be delivered from the delivery port of the gear case is prevented from leaking out of the said port when the delivery port is not pressed against .a material to be handled, thereby preventing soiling the said material and other objects.
Another object of the invention is to design the abovementioned apparatus so as to enable it to draw a line of the desired color upon the suit material by selecting a chalk of the desired color from those stored in the said chambers and bringing it to the delivery port.
For a more detailed description of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

In the above-mentioned drawings, a casing 1 has in one of the side walls, a round opening 2, in which is rotatably mounted a disk-shaped cover 3 that can be freely removed and which can be rotated while it is positioned in the opening 2. Upon the inner surface of the outer side wall of the casing 1 is an inside plate 4 having Y-shaped dividing walls 5 on its face, as shown by FIGURE 5. The inside plate 4 can rotate while sliding along the side wall of easing 1. The dividing walls on the side inside plate 4 are formed of pairs of bent partition plates between which are sandwiched packings 6, the peripheral ends of which always contact the inner surface of the casing 1 and rotate in conjunction with the "ice inside plate 4. Consequently the round space within the casing 1 is divided by the dividing walls into storage chambers 7, 8 and 9 for the pulverized chalk.
On the inner surface of the said cover 3 are formed engaging grooves 10 to receive the outside edges of the dividing walls 5; When the cover 3 is mounted in the opening 2, the grooves 10 engage the outside edges of the dividing walls 5 and the projections 5a on the dividing walls 5 likewise engage the concavities 10a in the walls forming grooves 10, so that the cover 3 and the dividing walls 5 are held together. As a result, by rotating the cover 3 which is exposed outside the casing 1, the inside plate 4 is also revolved, while the storage chambers 7, 8 and 9 separated by the dividing walls 5 likewise rotate within the casing 1. Since both ends of the dividing walls 5 engage the inner circumferential surface 18 of the easing 1, and slide along the said surface, they never separate from casing 1.
At the lower ends of the dividing walls 5 are formed notches 13 to allow the peripheral edge of the gear 12, which puts the hereinafter described vibrating rods 11 in action, to pass through them, while the packings 6 also project into these notches so as to contact the peripheral edge of the gear 12. The respective bases of vibrating rods 11 are fixed to the inside plate 4 by bolts and nuts 15a and the free end of the vibrating rod 11 in the center lies 'between the lower ends of the partition plates 5, while the vibrating rod 11 on the right side extends through the packing 6 through the slit 14 in a part of the partition plate of the dividing wall 5 on the right side and extends to the right of the lower end of the dividing wall 5 on the right side .and the vibrating .rod 11 on the left side extends through the packing 6 through the slit 14 in one part of the partition plate of the dividing wall 5 on the left side and extends to the left of the lower end of the dividing wall 5 on the left side.
The base of a leaf spring 15 is fixed to the bolts and nuts which mount the vibrating rods 11 on the inside plate 4, and the end of a click-stop pin 16, which is mounted on the end of the spring leaf 15 extends through a hole in the inside plate 4 to project out of its back and, on the inner surface of the side wall of the casing 1, against which the end of the said pin 16 engages, are formed a plurality of the concavities 17 into which the said pin 16 engages to hold the inside plate 4 at any required position.
At the lower end of the casing 1 is a concavity 22 for receiving a gear case 21 having a gear 12 therein, while a communicating hole 19 connecting the concavity 22 and the inside of the casing 1 is provided in the lower part of the casing 1, and a part of the outer periphery of the gear 12 extends into the said communicating hole 19.
Scales designations R.T.W.T.B. are arranged on a part of the outer periphery of the cover 3 and it is so designed that, when the scale designations are aligned with the mark 20 on the casing 1, the positions of the respective chambers 7, 8 and 9 in the casing 1 are indicated. In other words, when the scale designation W is aligned with the mark 20, the lower end of the chamber 7 is opposite the communicating hole 19 and, if the scale designation B is aligned with the mark 20, the lower end of the chamber 8 is opposite the communicating hole 19. Thus the lower end of the chamber 9 is opposite the communicating hole 19 when the scale designation R is aligned with the mark 20. In all the above-mentioned cases, the lower end of the vibrating rod 11 of the respective chamber contacts the outer periphery of the gear 12. But, when the scale designation T is aligned with the mark 20, the vibrating rod 11 is positioned at a point spaced from the gear 12 and does not contact it.
The upper half of the gear case 21 which is inserted into the concavity 22 in the lower part of the casing 1 is free to go up and down, while its lower half projects out of the casing 1 and on both sides of its middle part are projections 23 which prevent the gear case 21 from going into the concavity any further. The lower sides of the projections 23 have a V-shaped section respectively, so that they correspond to the shape of the lower part of easing 1.
A shaft 24 for the gear 12 extends through the longitudinal slits 25 in, the side walls of the gear case .21 and is rotatably mounted in the side walls of the concavity 22, so that the gear 12 does not move up and down, although the gear 21 does. Consequently only when the' gear case .is in the uppermost position does the lower part of the outer periphery of the gear 12 project through a chalk delivery port 26 in the .lower part of the gearcase 21. A rectangular communicating pipe 27, which surrounds the upper half of the gear 12, is attached to the inside of the concavity 22 .and a flange 28 on the other periphery of its upper end is fixed to the casing 1, while a leaf spring 29 for pressing the gear case 21 down is arranged between the lowerside of the flange 28 and the upper edge of the gear case 21, so that the gear case 21 is always pressed downward. On both sides of the gear 12 are arms 30 having their one ends rotatably mounted on the shaft 24 and extending in opposite directions therefrom. At the ends of these arms 30 are provided shutters 31 which have the shape of a circular arc and surround the lower half of the outer periphery of the gear 12. It is so designed that, when the said arms 30 are lowered, the opposite ends of the shutters 31 contact and close the delivery port 26 and, as soon as the arms 30 move up slightly, the opposite ends of the shutters 31 retract and open the delivery port 26. Pins 32, :which are mounted on the inner surface of the side walls of the gear case 21, engage the arms 30 to swing them upwards when the gear case 21 goes up, and engage in the apertures 33 in arms 30.
The apparatus. according to the invention is operated in the following way:
The cover 3 is removed and white, blue and red colored pulverized chalks are respectively put into the chambers 7, 8 and 9 and the cover 3 is closed. If the scale designation W is matched with the mark 20, only the lower part of the chamber 7 will be connected to the communicating hole 19 and the lower end of the vibrating rod 11 in the chamber 7 contacts the outer periphery of the gear 12. Now, the casing 1 positioned over the material to be sewn and the chalk delivery port 26 at the lower end of the gear case 21 which projects out of the lower part of the casing is pressed against the material. The casing 1 moves down in opposition to the leaf spring 29. Consequently the gear case 21, starting from its position as shown in FIGURE 9, causes the gear case 21 to move upward in relation to the casing 1 to the position of FIG- URE 8. Since the gear 12 does not go up, although the gear case 21 does, the lower part of the outer periphery of the gear 12 tends to project out of the delivery port 26 of the gear case 21 and touches material.
On the other hand, as the gear case goes up in relation to the casing 1, the pins 32 on the insides of the side walls go up within the apertures 33. As a result, the arms 30 turn around the shaft 24 and open the shutters 31, which are attached to them, and open the delivery port 26. Consequently the gear 12 projects out of the delivery port 26 from between the shutters 31. If the casing 1 is then moved forward, while pressing the lower edge of the gear case 21 against the material and sliding over-it, the gear 12 rolls over the material and the teeth thereon strike the lower end of the vibrating rod 11. As a result, the mobility of the pulverized chalk in the chamber 7 is increased by the vibrating rod 11 and the chalk flows through the communicating hole 19, passing through the communicating pipe 27 and the gear case 21, and then flows between the shutters 31 and is delivered to the material from the delivery port 26, so that a white line of pulverized chalk is drawn upon the said material.
When the casing 1 is lifted from the material, after drawing the line as above-described, the gear'case 21 is separated from the suit material and it is pressed downward 1 at the same time by the spring leaf 29 to the position shown in FIGURE 9 and, as the pins 32 move down, the arms 30rotate downward at the same time, closing the shutters 31 and shutting the delivery port 26, so that the pulverized chalk in the gear case 21 will not fall out of the delivery port-26;
If the cover 3 is turned to set the scale designation B opposite mark 20, the blue colored chalk in the chamber 8 will be supplied to the gear case 21, and when the scale designation R is placed opposite the mark 20, the red colored chalk enters the chamber 9. At the same time,
the vibrating rod 11 touches the gear 12, so that a blue or red line can be easily drawn upon the material as in the caseof the white chalk.
But,'if the scale designation of T between W and B" or between W and R is placed opposite the mark 20, the
gear 12 doe not contact the vibrating rod 11. Conse-. quently, since the mobilityof the pulverized chalk is not improved, the chalk will not be delivered from the delivery port 26. When the casing 1 is in this condition, however,
it can be utilized as a line marking device for making a dotted-line made up of notches upon the paper pattern by rotation of the gear 12.
By the simple operation of turning the dial-,cover 3 to its required position, the colored lines of pulverizedchalk or a dotted line made by the gear only canbe 1 easily drawn upon the material as above-mentioned. On the other hand, the delivery port is opened and closed by the shutters, which are so designed that they automatic-ally open only when the delivery port is pressed down against the material, so that the shutters-are not allowed to open to let the chalk fall out when it is not required.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described above in detail, it will be understood that 1 numerous modifications might be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in 1 the following claims: a What I claim is: 1. A chalk dispensing and material marking device comprising a hollow casing, a vibrating member mounted in said casing, said casing having a dispensing opening therein, a rotatable member mounted in said opening and engageable with said vibrating member for vibrating said vibrating member when said rotatable member rotates, a movable member positioned in said dispensing opening around said rotatable member and movable into and out i of said opening, and shutter members mounted adjacent said opening for movement back and forth across said 1 opening and movable away from in front of said opening when said member is moved into said opening, said rotatable member having a portion of the periphery thereof projecting from said casing and said movable member when said movable member is in its innermost position in said opening.
2. A chalk dispensing and material marking device as claimed in claim 1 in which said shutter members are coupled to said movable member for movement away from in front of the opening when said movable member moves into said casing.
3. A chalk dispensing and material marking device as claimed in claim 2 in which said shutters each have an arm thereon, said rotatable member having a shaft rotatably mounted in the portion of said casing defining I said opening, said shutter arms being rotatably mounted on said shaft, and pins on said movable member engageable with said arms for swinging said arms about said shaft when said movable member moves into and out of in said transverse opening, dividing said easing into a plurality of compartments each having a dispensing opening .therein and walls in said casing engageable with said cover plate, said dividing walls being movable Within said casing by rotatation of said cover plate for aligning the dispensing openings in the respective compartments with said dispensing opening in said casing.

A chalk dispensing and material marking device as claimed in claim 4 further comprising additional vibrating members with a vibrating member in each compartment, said vibrating members being rods having one end fixed in said compartments at a point remote from the compartment dispensing opening and having the free ends adjacent said dispensing opening, said free ends being spaced from said rotatable member in said casing dispensing opening when said compartment dispensing openings are not precisely aligned with said casing dispensing opening, whereby said rotatable member can be rotated while out of engagement with said rods.

Claims (1)

1. A CHALK DISPENSING AND MATERIAL MARKING DEVICE COMPRISING A HOLLOW CASING, A VIBRATING MEMBER MOUNTED IN SAID CASING, SAID CASING HAVING A DISPENSING OPENING THEREIN, A ROTATABLE MEMBER MOUNTED IN SAID OPENING SAID ENGAGEABLE WITH SAID VIBRATING MEMBER FOR VIBRATING SAID VIBRATING MEMBER WHEN SAID ROTATABLE MEMBER ROTATES, A MOVABLE MEMBER POSITIONED IN SAID DISPENSING OPENING AROUND SAID ROTATABLE MEMBER AND MOVABLE INTO AND OUT OF SAID OPENING, AND SHUTTER MEMBERS MOUNTED ADJACENT SAID OPENING FOR MOVEMENT BACK AND FORTH ACROSS SAID OPENING AND MOVABLE AWAY FROM IN FRONT OF SAID OPENING WHEN SAID MEMBER IS MOVED INTO SAID OPENING, SAID ROTATABLE MEMBER HAVING A PORTION OF THE PERIPHERY THEREOF PROJECTING FROM SAID CASING AND SAID MOVABLE MEMBER WHEN SAID MOVABLE MEMBER IS IN ITS INNERMOST POSITION IN SAID OPENING.
