No. 372,234 17 Claims. (Cl. 108-28) This invention relates to dolls, and more particularly to a stand for dolls and doll clothing.

Children collect miniature dolls, and wardrobes or outfits for the same. They like to display these collections to one another, and also use them as a room decoration. The general object of the present invention is to provide a display stand for dolls and doll clothing.

A more particular object is to provide such a stand which combines compactness with easy access to any doll and its clothing. For this purpose, the device acts as a rotatable garment rack, and the dolls are displayed above the circular rack of hanging clothes. Differently expressed, the present display stand may be considered to be double-decked or double-tiered, thereby greatly reducing the space required on a table or bureau top or shelf.

In accordance with a further feature and object of the invention, the stand conveniently separates the wardrobe and accessories for each doll.

Other objects are to provide the stand with a roof over the dolls, and to make the stand colorful and ornamental in appearance. Further objects are to so design the stand that it may be packaged and sold compactly; may be easily assembled by a child; and is inexpensive to manufacture so that it may be sold at a low price.

To accomplish the foregoing general objects, and other more specific objects which will hereinafter appear, the invention resides in the display stand and the elements thereof and their relation one to another, as are hereinafter more particularly described in the following specification. The specification is accompanied by a drawing in which:

Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to FIG. 1, the stand there shown comprises a base 12, a lower post 14 on the base 12, a rotatable circular platform 16 on the post 14, an upper post 18 on the platform 16, and a generally circular roof 20 on the upper post 18. The platform 16 has a plurality of doll supports 22, and in FIG. 1 two are shown occupied, and two empty. The platform 16 also has a plurality of peripheral rail sections 24 outside the doll supports 22 for receiving the hooks of miniature hangers for doll clothing. One such hanger is shown in broken lines at 26 in FIG. 2.

However, the dimension or spacing of the arms The roof 20 is generally cone-shaped, and the underside of the roof has a socket shown at 28 in FIG. 2 for receiving the upper end of the upper post 18. Referring to FIG. 3, there is preferably one rail section 24 for each doll support socket 42, in order to carry the clothing for that doll, and to separate the wardrobe of one doll from that of another. Also referring to FIG. 2, the base 12 preferably has radial stiffening webs 30 and there preferably are as many such webs as there are doll supports. The webs then act as partitions which divide the base into sections for receiving and separating accessories such as shoes, handbags, etc. for the individual dolls.

Considering the arrangement shown in FIGS. 1-4 in greater detail, the base 12 is molded out of a single body of a suitable plastic material. As molded it includes a socket 32 which receives the lower end of post 14. This post is preferably a round wooden stick, and its lower end is preferably tightly received in the socket 32. For this purpose, the lower end is preferably diametrically slotted as indicated at 34, the diameter of the stick 14 exceeding the diameter of the hole at 32, but the stick yielding because of the slot 34.

The platform 16 also is preferably molded in one piece out of a suitable plastic molding material. The underside of the platform is provided with a socket 36 (FIG. 2) which preferably freely receives the upper end of the stick 14, the platform then being rotatable relative to the base. The diameter of socket 36 is therefore slightly larger than the diameter of socket 32. Moreover, the top of stick 14 is preferably rounded, as shown at 38, to minimize friction as the platform revolves. The platform preferably has radial stiffening webs 37.

The top of the platform is molded with an upstanding boss or hollow cylinder 40, and the upper post 18 is preferably a hollow piece of cardboard tubing. The boss 40 is dimensioned to receive the lower end of the tube 18 with a tight fit.

The doll supports 22 preferably comprise a socket 42, a rod 44, and a yoke 46. In the present case there are four such sockets 42 molded integrally on the upper side of the platform 16. These may have stiffening webs 43. The rods 44 may be wood sticks, and in such case are preferably diametrically slotted at both ends, as indicated at 48 and 50 in FIG. 2. The yoke 46 is shown in FIGS. 2 and 4. In the present case it is molded out of a yieldable plastic, and comprises a hub portion 52 and spaced arms 54. These arms are dimensioned to fit around the body of a doll beneath the armpits, and so to support the doll in upright position as shown in 54 is not critical because they are yieldable, as suggested by the broken-line position 54 in FIG. 4. It will be understood that the socket 42 and the hub 52 are both dimensioned somewhat smaller than the rod 44, and receive the same with a snug resilient fit by reason of the

The roof 20 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is a modified cone. It may be made of a suitable sheet material, for example, sheet metal, sheet plastic, or sheet cardboard. It may be bent to configuration or, in the case of metal or plastic, it may be molded or drawn to configuration. The socket 28 may be secured inside the roof in any desired fashion, as by means of adhesive or cement or by use of tongue-and-slot connections. The socket may be dimensioned to fit either inside the tube 18, or outside tube 18 as here shown.

A modified and more ornamental form of roof is shown in FIG. 5 of the drawing. This is made up of a plurality of sectors 60, and it has a scalloped edge 62. There are upright panels 64 on the top, and these are joined in peripheral relation around the roof. They are joined to the roof, as by means of a tongue 66 at the bottom of each panel, passing through a mating slit 68 in a roof sector. The ends of the panels 64 may be oppositely slit and crossed, as indicated at 70, to join the same to one another in order to better hold the panels in upright position, and also to stiffen the roof structure, particularly when the roof is made of paperboard. The socket beneath the roof also may be made of paperboard, and is connected to the roof by means of upwardly projecting tongues, here visible at 72.

The roof is preferably packaged and sold in sheet form, but is readily assembled and brought into the intended cone shape. The original square blank is illustrated in FIG. 6, it being divided by score lines 74 into a plurality of sectors 60 which preferably make up a full circle when flat, as shown, but which are assembled with one end sector (in this case the sector 59) overlapping the adjacent end sector 61. In the present case there are eight sectors, defined by the score lines 74. The line 76 between sectors 59 and 61 is a severance. Sector 59 is cut to provide a downwardly bendable tongue 78 which folds on a score line 80, and sector 61 has a mating slit 68 which, in the particular design here shown, may be exactly like the other six peripheral slits 68. In practice, the sector 59 is slid over the sector 61, and tongue 78 is passed downward through slit 68, thereby bringing the body to the shape of relatively flat pyramid having seven flat sides, and a scalloped .edge 62.

The toy as originally sold includes another cut and scored sheet, here illustrated in FIG. 7. The part 82 may be folded to provide a socket which is secured beneath the center of the roof. It preferably has six sides 84 and two more endsides 83 and 85, which are folded on score lines with the

83 and 85 overlapping, thus providing a polyhedron with seven sides, each side cor-responding to one of the seven sectors of the roof. The overlapping

83 and 85 may be slotted and shaped, as shown at 86 and 87, to interengage and interlock with one another, and each side is provided with a projecting tongue 72. These point downward in FIG. 7, but are used in upward direction, as shown at 72 in FIG. 5. The resulting polyhedron is dimensioned to receive the upper end of the tubular post with a snug fit.

Reverting to FIG. 6, each sector 60 has a short slit 88 which mates with a tongue 72, and the tongues are preferably shaped somewhat smaller at the base so that they tend to lock into the slits 88 with a somewhat snap engagement.

Most of the sheet shown in FIG. 7 is made up of the panels 64 which are disposed upright on the roof, as shown in FIG. 5. The panels are ornamentally printed and colored, but such decoration is omitted here. Each panel 64 has a depending tongue 66, and is oppositely slit at its ends, as shown at 90 and '92. The method of assembly will be clear from FIG. 5, the ends of the panels being joined by moving the slit 9-0 of one panel over and beyond the slit 92 of the adjacent panel to form a complete ring of seven panels. This ring is applied to the roof with each bottom tongue 66 passing through a mating slit 68.

The schematic and simplified section shown in FIG. 8 shows how the seven-sided socket 82 is joined to the roof sectors by means of tongues 72. It further shows the overlapping sectors 59 and 61 with tongue 78 of sector 59 passing through the slit in sector 61. It further shows how one of the upright panels 64 has its bottom tongue passed through the same slit as the tongue 78.

In practice, the roof may be given radial stripes of contrasting color, say red and white; the panels 64 may be ornamented and printed in red and white; and the tubular post 18 may be given spiral red and white stripes. The stand then has an attractive and gay candy cane effect. These features are not illustrated here, and form no part of the structure here claimed, but are illustrated and claimed in my copending design patent application Ser. No. D. 80,251, filed June 3, 1964.

It is believed that the construction and method of assembly of my improved doll and doll clothing stand, as well as the advantages thereof, will be apparent from the foregoing detailed description. It will also be apparent that while the invention has been shown and described in several preferred forms, changes may be made in the structures shown without departing from the scope of the invention, as sought to be defined in the following claims.

Iclaim:

1. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, and a platform elevated on said post, said platform having a plunality of doll supports for supporting dolls on said platform, and said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing hanging in the region below the dolls between the elevated platform and the base, said rail sections being arcuate and disposed end to end and making up a circle which acts as a rim for the platform.

A doll and doll clot-hing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, and a platform elevated on said post, said platform being freely rotatable relative to said base, said platform having a plurality of doll supports for supporting dolls on said platform, and said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said doll supports for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing hanging in the region below the dolls between the elevated platform and the base, said platform and rails being integrally molded out of a suitable material, the molded piece being circular and having .arcuate outwardly convex slots just inside the rim to form the nail sections outside the slots and which slots leave connections to the platform between the ends of the slots to support the rail sections.

A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, a platform on said post, said platform being rotatable relative to said base, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platform, and said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing hanging in the region below the dolls between the elevated platform and the base, said platform and rail sections and sockets being integrally molded out of a suitable material, the molded piece being circular and having arcuate outwardly convex slots just inside the rim to form the rail sections outside the slots and which slots leave connections to the platform between the ends of the slots to support the rail sections.

A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, a platform on said post, said platform being rotatable relative to said base, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platform, and said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing hanging in the region below the dolls between the elevated platform and the base, said platform and rail sections and sockets being integrally molded out of a suitable material, the molded piece being circular and having arcuate outwardly convex slots just inside the rim to form the rail sections outside the slots and which slots leave connections to the platform between the ends of the slots to support the rail sections, there being a separate rail section at each doll support to carry the clothing of the doll which is on the related support.

5. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base having an upstanding hub, a post on said base in said hub, a platform on said post, said platform being rotatable relative to said base, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platform, and said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing hanging in the region below the dolls between the elevated platform and the base, said platform and rail sections and sockets being integrally molded out of a suitable material, the molded piece being circular and having arcuate outwardly convex slots just inside the rim to form the rail sections outside the slots and which slots leave connections to the platform between the ends of the slots to support the nail sections, there being a separate rail section at each doll support to carry the clothing of the doll which is on the related support, said base having radial stiffening webs, said base and hub and webs being integrally molded, there being as many webs as there are doll supports, to provide related sections for shoes and other accessories.

6. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circular platform, a post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having means for receiving said post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving a doll support, and the underside of said roof having a socket receiving the upper end of said post, said post having a height somewhat greater than the height of the dolls intended to be received by the doll supports.

7. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circular platform, a tubular post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a center boss for receiving said tubular post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving an upright rod having a yoke at its upper end for receiving and supporting a doll, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when flat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a pyramid, the overlapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit receiving said tongue, said post having a height somewhat greater than the height of the dolls intended to be received by the doll supports.

8. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circular platform, a tubular post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a center boss for receiving said tubular post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving an upright rod having a yoke at its upper end for receiving and supporting a doll, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when fiat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a pyramid, the over lapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit receiving said tongue, each of said sectors having a peripheral slit, upright panels around the top of said roof, each panel having a tongue passing into a peripheral roof slit, and the ends of said panels being joined in peripheral relation around the roof.

9. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circular platform, a tubular post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a center boss for receiving said tubular post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving an upright rod having a yoke at its upper end for receiving and supporting a doll, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when flat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a pyramid, the overlapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit receiving said tongue, the underside of said roof having a polyhedral socket made up of as many sides as there are sectors, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

10. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circuiar platform, a tubular post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a center boss for receiving said tubular post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving an upright rod having a yoke at its upper end for receiving and supporting a doll, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when flat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a pyramid, the over lapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit re ceiving said tongue, each of said sectors having a pcripheral slit, upright panels around the top of said roof, each panel having a tongue passing into a peripheral roof slit, and the ends of said panels being joined in peripheral relation around the roof, the underside of said roof having a polyhedral socket made up of as many sides as there are sectors, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

11. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a circular platform, a tubular post thereon, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a center boss for receiving said tubular post and having a plurality of sockets distributed around the post, each socket receiving an upright rod having a yoke at its upper end for receiving and supporting a doll, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having eight sectors mak ing up a circle when flat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a cone shape with seven sectors, the overlapping sector having a downwardly bent tongue and the under-lapped sector having a mating slit receiving said tongue, each of said sectors having a peripheral slit, upright panels around the top of said roof, each panel having a tongue passing into a peripheral roof slit, and the ends of said panels being oppositely slit and crossed to join the panels in peripheral relation around the roof, the underside of said roof having a socket made up of eight sides overlapped to use seven, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

12. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a lower post on said base, a rotatable circular platform elevated on said post, an upper post on said platform, and a generally circular roof on said upper post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of doll supports, said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said doll supports for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, said rail sections being arcuate and disposed end to end and making up a circle which acts as a rim for the platform, and the underside of said roof having a socket receiving the upper end of said upper post, said upper post having a height somewhat greater than the height of the dolls intended to be received .by the doll supports, and said lower post having a height somewhat greater than the length of the doll clothing to be worn by the dolls.

A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a lower post on said base, a rotatable circular platform elevated on said post, an upper post on said platform, and a generally circular roof on said upper post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of doll support means for supporting dolls on said platform, said platform having a plurality of rail sections for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, there being a rail section for each doll support to carry the related clothing, said rail sections being arcuate and disposed end to end and making up a circle which acts as a rim for the platform, said roof being generally cone-shaped, and the underside of said roof having a socket receiving the upper end of said upper post, said upper post having a height somewhat greater than the height of the dolls intended to be received by the doll supports, and said lower post having a height somewhat greater than the length of the doll clothing to be worn by the dolls.

A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a lower post on said base, a rotatable circular platform elevated on said post, an upper post on said platform, and a. generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platfonm, said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, there being a rail section for each doll support to carry the related clothing, said base having as many radial stiffening webs as there are doll supports to provide related sections for accessories, said roof being generally cone-shaped, and the underside of said roof having a socket receiving the upper end of said upper post.

A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, a rotatable circular platform on said post, a tubular post on said platform, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platform, said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when flat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a cone shape, the overlapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit receiving said tongue, the underside of said roof having a socket made up of as many sides as there are sectors, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

16. A doll and doll cloth-ing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, a rotatable circular platform on said post, a tubular post on said platform, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for suporting dolls on said platform, said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when fiat and assembled with one sector overlapped to provide a cone shape, the overlapping sectors having a bent tongue and a mating slit receiving said tongue, each of said sectors having a peripheral slit, upright panels around the top of said roof, each panel having a tongue passing into a roof slit, and the ends of said panels being joined in peripheral relation around the roof, the underside of said roof having a socket made up of as many sides as there are sectors, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

17. A doll and doll clothing stand comprising a base, a post on said base, a rotatable circular platform on said post, a tubular post on said platform, and a generally circular roof on said post over said platform, said platform having a plurality of sockets for rods carrying yokes at their upper ends for supporting dolls on said platform, said platform having a plurality of peripheral rail sections outside said sockets for receiving the hooks of hangers for doll clothing, there being a rail section for each doll support to carry the related clothing, said base having as many radial stiffening webs as there are doll supports to provide related sections for accessories, said roof being generally cone-shaped and having a plurality of sectors making up a circle when flat and assembled with one seetor overlapped to provide a cone shape, the overlapping sector having a downwardly bent tongue and the underlap-ped sector having a mating slit receiving said tongue, each of said sectors having a peripheral slit, upright panels around the top of said roof, each panel having a tongue passing into a roof slit, and the ends of said panels being oppositely slit and crossed to join the panels in peripheral relation around the roof, the underside of said roof having a socket made up of as many sides as there are sectors, with each side having an upwardly projecting tongue passing through a mating slit near the center of the roof, said socket receiving the upper end of said tubular post.

Claims

1. A DOLL AND DOLL CLOTHING STAND COMPRISING A BASE, A POST ON SAID BASE, AND A PLATFORM ELEVATED ON SAID POST, SAID PLATFORM HAVING A PLURALITY OF DOLL SUPPORTS FOR SUPPORTING DOLLS ON SAID PLATFORM, AND SAID PLATFORM HAVING A PLURALITY OF PERIPHERAL RAIL SECTIONS FOR RECEIVING THE HOOKS OF HANGERS FOR DOLL CLOTHING HANGING IN THE REGION BELOW THE DOLLS BETWEEN THE ELEVATED PLATFORM AND THE BASE, SAID RAIL SECTIONS BEING ARCUATE AND DISPOSED END TO END AND MAKING UP A CIRCLE WHICH ACTS AS A RIM FOR THE PLATFORM.
