Description

T. J. FORD.
NBGKTIE PASTBNER.
Patented May 26, 1885.
Unirse rains PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. FORD, OF GENEVA, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DENMAN A. WARNER, OF SAME PLACE.
NECKTlE-FASTENl-IR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,715, dated May 26, 1885.
Application filed February 2, 1885. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. FORD, of Geneva, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for securing neckties, consisting ot' the device for securing the strap or band, as hereinafter dero scribed and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is aback view of a neektie having my button attached. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a different kind of necktie, showing ends of neckband provided with t5 my buckle or clasp. Fig. 3 is a detached View ot' my spring-button. Fig. 4t is a detached view ofthe buckle or clasp. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section through ends of neckband, showing manner of securing the buckle 2o thereto. Figs. 6 and 7 are modified forms of constructing the buckle, either one of which may be adopted.
A is a button having a split pin, a, with shouldered head. B is an eye-plate having prongs b on its corners,by which it is secured to the shield or band of the necktie. The
purpose of this button and eye-plate is for iastening the front ofthe necktie to the neckband of the shirt, which is done by putting 3o the pin a of the button through the buttonhole in the neckband from the inside, and then pushing the eye-plate over the end ofthe pin.
This fastens the necktie in its proper place and elfectually prevents its slipping.
O is a buckle consisting of a plate, c, having a tapering` slot made by punching` up a portion of the metal and forming a lip. Said plate is provided with sharp prongs c on its corners for securing it to the band, as shown in Fig. 5. .to
D is a plate having two slots, d d, through which the neekband is passed for attaehingit thereon. The middle bar of said plate has a lip or hook, d', formed upon it,having projecting sides, and is designed to engage with the tapering slot in plate c, for hooking the two ends of the neckband of the tie together. The plate D has sharp teeth on one end to catch into the band for holding it in place, as seen at D+, Fig. 2. The plate D is thus made ad- 5o jnstable on the band.
Having described my invention` I claim- The combination, with the band of a necktie, ofthe buckle G, consisting of plate c, having tapering slot and secured to the band by the prongs c', and the plate D, having slots dd and hook d', and provided with the teeth for securing it to the band, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
THOMAS J. FORD.
