SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,368, dated January 27, 1903.

Be it known that I, CHARLES RABENOWITZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Oharleroi, in the county of Washington and. State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garment-supporters and the primary object thereof is to provide a device which though simple in construction is very elfective and inexpensive to manufacture.

Further, my invention contemplates the provision of means for retaining the belt, trousers, shirt, and lower nether garment in position.

A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the attachment can be readily attached to the trousers.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several vieWs,in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view representing the upper portion of the trousers and the waist-line of the shirt and showing my improved attachment secured in position thereto. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective, showing the manner in which my improvement is attached to the shirt. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of the flexible band with the safety-pin secured thereto. Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the belt slide or supporter. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modified form of belt-slide, and Fig. 6 is a rear elevation thereof.

1 indicates the belt-slide, having its lower end hooked, as at 2, to engage the lower end of the belt 3 and its central portion bent inward, as at 4, to prevent any upward movement of the belt. The upper end of this slide is approximately til-shaped, as at 5, and receives the waistband of the trousers, (indicated in the drawings by the reference-numeral 6.)

7 indicates a sleeve formed integral with the lower end of the inner side of the U- shaped bend 5 of the belt-slide and receiving the loop 8.

9 indicates teeth formed on the inner face of the end 5 and in alinement with the inbent portion 4 of the slide.

10 indicates an approximately U-shaped clamp having in one of its arms an elongated slot 11 to receive the stud 12, carried by the belt-slide, said stud being adapted to limit the movement of the said clamp, and thereby prevent the removal thereof. The belt-slide is formed of spring metal, and it will be apparent that after the clamp 10 has been slid over the end of the slide it will tightly clamp the slide in position.

13 indicates a strip of elastic material having one of its ends secured in the loop 8 of the belt-slide and its other end to the clasp 14, which clasp is secured to the shirt, as at 15.

16 indicates an ordinary safety-pin secured to the strip 13 by stitching the strip intermediate its ends, and thereby forming a loop in which the body portion or shank of the safetypin is received. This pin is normally secured to the lining of the trousers.

17 indicates the nether garment, having the usual loop 18, through which the strip 13 passes.

In operation the belt is first inserted in the belt-slide between its curved end 2 and inbent portion 4 and the U-shaped end 5 thereof arranged over the waistband of the trousers, after which the U-shaped clamp 10 is forced downwardly over the upper U-shaped end of the slide, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The belt-slide having thus been secured in position, the safety-pin 16 is next secured to the lining of the trousers and the clasp 14 then inserted through the loop 18 and secured to the shirt.

In view of the foregoing it will be apparent that'thfough the employment of the elastic strip 13 a slight play is permitted be tween the several garments, thereby preventing injury thereto.

In the modified form of my device I employ a belt-slide which has its lower end hooked, as at 19, and its upper portion bent to form the stepped U-shaped portions and 21 to receive the belt and. waistband of the trousers, respectively. Further, in lieu of theU-shaped clamp 10 I employ a fastener 22, which extends through the U-shaped portion 20. This fastener is connected by the cord 23 to the slide. 24 indicates an integral sleeve in which is arranged the loop 25.

It will be obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination with the belt-slide provided at its upper end with an extension arranged over the waistband of the trousers, of an elastic strip secured to the said slide, a clasp secured to the other end of the said strip, and a safety-pin secured to the said strip intermediate its ends.

2. The combination with the belt-slide having its ends curved, of an approximately U- shaped clamp slidably mounted on the upper end of the said slide, and a strip secured to the inner end of the said extension and adapted to be secured to the shirt, and nether garment, substantially as described.

3. The combination with the belt-slide, of means for securing the same in position, an elastic strip secured to the said belt-slide, a safety-pin secured to said strip intermediate its ends, said pin adapted to be secured to the lining of the trousers, and a clasp on the inner end of the said strip, and adapted to be secured to the shirt, said strip adapted to support the lower nether garment, substantially as described.

4:- The combination with the belt-slide having approximately U-shaped ends, of a loop connected to the upper U-shaped end, an approximately U -shaped clamp slidably mounted on the said upper U shaped end, an elastic strip secured to the said loop, a safety-pin secured to the said strip intermediate its ends, said pin being adapted to be secured to the lining of the trousers, and a clasp on the inner end of the said strip, said clasp being adapted to be secured to the shirt, substantially as described.
