Description

May 25, 1965 T. B. WRIGHT 3,185,537
SOAP HOLDER Filed Oct. 10, 1963 INVENTOR.
TH AS, B. WRIGHT ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,185,537 SOAP HOLDER Thomas B. Wright, Box 91, Delake, Oreg. Filed Oct. 10, 1963, Ser. No. 315,250 1 Claim. (Cl. 312351) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in soap holders. i
A primary objective of the present invention is to provide a soap holder employing an improved structure and arrangement of soap supporting members in the holder whereby a bar of soap supported thereon is easily placed in the holder and furthermore easily grasped for removing it therefrom.
Another object is to provide :an improved soap holder including means for catching drippings from the soap and furthermore to provide soap holding means which includes a compartment therein adapted for the reception of absorbent means to catch and hold soap drippings.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises a soap holder employing a semi-circular body portion provided with longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced parallel projections adapted to support a bar of soap. The bottom portionof the holder forms a compartment to catch soap drippings, one embodiment of the invention employing means to receive a sponge or wash cloth wherein the soap drippings maybe collected for immediate use.
The invention will be better understood and additional objects will become apparent from the following specification and claim, considered together with the accompanying drawing, wherein the numerals of reference indicate likes parts and wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is an end elevational view of a second embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 33 of FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of soap engaging means for the holder.
Referring now in particular to the drawing and first to FIGURE 1, a first embodiment of the invention comprises a semi-cylindrical body portion provided with a back wall 12 and a front wall 14. The front wall 14 extends upwardly from the bottom of the body portion 10 through only a portion of the height of the latter and thus forms a compartment 15 at the bottom of the holder.
Forming an integral part of the body portion 10 are soap engaging members 16. These members comprise longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced, parallel ridges located on the upwardly curved side Walls of the body portion. The two lowermost of said ridges together with the rear wall 12 and partial front wall 14 form the bottom compartment 15.
A bar of soap 18 is adapted to be supported on the ridges 16, and preferably the bar of soap is mounted transof the rear wall 12 for attaching it to a supporting surface.
FIGURE 2 shows a modified form of holder employing a cylindrical body portion 10a similar to the embodiment of FIGURE 1, a partial front wall 14a, and longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced, parallel ridges 160. In this to support said body portion on the base. In a preferred versely, or in other words, with its long dimension crossconstruction a removable engagement is provided between the downturned edges 30 and the side walls 24 whereby the body portion 10a may be removed if desired.
The body portion 10a is suspended in the base member such that the lower end thereof is disposed above the bottom 28 of the base and there is thus formed a lower compartment 32 adapted for the removable reception of an absorbent article 34 such as a sponge or wash cloth for catching soap drippings.
The bottom of body portion 10a is provided with one or more apertures 36 through which soap drippings flow into the lower compartment 32 for collection in the absorbent article.
This embodiment also utilizes suction cups 20 secured to the rear wall 26. As illustrated in FIGURE 3 the suction cups 20 may be secured adjacent the upper end of the holder, and spacer blocks 38, also secured to the rear wall 26, are employed at the lower end of the holder to support the holder in a vertical position.
Referring now to FIGURE 4, there is shown a second form of soap engaging means for the body portion 100. Such soap engaging means are in the form of projections or knobs 40 disposed in longitudinally aligned rows on the sides of the body portion. The rows of projections are laterally spaced up the sides of the base to accommodate various sizes of soap bars.
In accordance with the present invention there is thus provided a soap holder employing means for supporting a bar of soap such that the latter may be easily placed therein or easily grasped for removing it. In view of the laterally spaced, multiple ridges, various sizes of soap bars may be supported in the holder. Furthermore, the soap drippings are caught, either in a compartment portion or in an absorbent article, to prevent wastage of the soap.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the .subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A soap holder comprising a body portion having a horizontal bottom wall, upwardly and outwardly curved side walls leading from said bottom wall, a back wall on said body portion integrated with said bottom and side walls and disposed upwardly at substantially right angles thereto, a front wall on said body portion also integrated with said bottom and side walls and disposed upwardly at substantially right angles thereto, said front wall extending upwardly through only a portion of the height of the body portion, and a plurality of longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced elongated ribs on said side walls extending between said front and backs walls for supporting a bar of soap crosswise in the holder above the bottom wall there- 3 4 of, the front and back walls of said holder and the lower- 2,214,869 9/40 West 21113 most two of said ribs forming a soap dripping chamber 2,505,387 4/62 Dantzlel 248309 with said bottom wall. 3,019,549 2/63 Evans 20677.1
