Description

G. C. MYERS.
CARPET FASTENER. No. 310,217. Patented Jan. 6, 1885.
WITNESSES: a INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GAMALIEL O. MYERS, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
(JARPET-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,217, dated January 6, 1885.
Application filed November 19, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GAMALIEL O. MYERs,
I a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Carpet-Tacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in tacks for fastening carpets to the floor; and it consists of Wire cut diagonally and bent at a right angle to form the head, with the bevel of the same inclining upwardly.
The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a piece of wire. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the carpet-tack.
A represents a piece ofwire with lines drawn diagonally across the same to indicate the points of separation. The dotted lines at 0 exhibit a head of one section. After the diagonal separation the bending at a right angle at about one-fourth the length from the top, with the diagonal face beneath, completes the carpet-tack B.
The enlarged View, Fig. 2, exhibits clearly the form of the completed carpet-tack.
The object of forming the diagonal face of the head beneath is for a double pnrposeviz., that the point shall be elevated to readily pierce the carpet, and that in turning the same over the carpet after the piercing it will not engage the surface of the same. The tack is driven into the floor with the point from the wall until there is about one-fourth of an inch space between the head and floor, the edge of the carpet is pressed over the same,
the point is then turned toward the wall, and v GAMALIEL O. MYERS.
