NITED STATES PATENT FFICEQ ISAAC N. GROVES, OF GLIO, TEXAS.
MECHANlCAL MOTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,853, dated November 11, 1884.
Application filed August 28, 1884.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC N. GRovEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clio, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Motors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention has relation to mechanical motors, and its object is to convert a given r0- tary into a vertical reciprocating motion, and to provide means whereby the stroke of the reciprocating motion may be increased or diminished, .according to the use or work to which the machine may be applied; and to these ends the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim. I
The figure in the drawing is a perspective elevation of my improved motor.
A A are the sides, provided with legs a, which constitute the framework of the machine. B is the main driving-shaft, having crank b for operating the same. 0 is a gearwheel centrally secured to said shaft, so as to mesh with the pinion D, secured toa secondary shaft, (not shown-,) on the outer end of which is a faceplate, E, having crank-pin holes 0 (No model.)
located at different distances from the center. F is a removable screw crank'pin, which engages the lower end of the pitman G, its up per end being attached to the rear end of the lever H. This lever is fulcrumed in the adjustable standard I, and its forward end, i, is bifurcated to receive the end of the reciprocating bar K, which works in a guide, 12, in the arm N, secured to the frame. A The lever H is provided with a series of fulcrum-holes, h, by means of which the stroke of the endt'may be increased or diminished as the lever is adjusted, and the standard I may be adjusted to one of the series of holes 0 in the frame, so as to obtain greater or less power on the lever.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The combination, with the frame A, shaft B, gear 0, pinion D, faceplate E, and pitman G, of the adjustable lever H 0, standard I, and the reciprocating bar K, working in the guidearm a N, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 55 presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC N. GROVES.
