UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
JOHN SAILER, OF MILTON, WISOONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ADONIRAM J. EASTMAN, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
CORD- OR STRAP FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters, Patent No. 307,806, dated November 11, 1884-.
Application filed April 7, 1884. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, JOHN M. SAILER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milton, county of Rock, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful 00rd or Strap Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention consists in effecting certain improvements in such devices to increase their utility and facilitate the operation.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device; Fig. 2, a vertical section with parts left full, showing the internal construction; Fig. 3, the same, with slight changes in 0011- struction; and Fig. 4 is a lower end view.
The body or shell-case B of the device is made tapered at the sides, converging toward the lower end, as shown in the drawings. The look a, which engages the cord D, or rope, or strap, as the case may be, and clampsit against the inclined walls of the case B, may be circular in form, as in Fig. 2, or wedge shape, as in Fig. 3 at a. The edges of the lock which engage the cord are serrated to effect an engagement of said parts which will not slip. The look a is provided with a stud, 0, on each side, Fig. 4, which extends through an opening in the case B, Fig. 1,where it can be manipulated by the thumb and finger in releasing the look from engagement with the cord by pulling toward the widest end of the case. The
case is-bulged out at the lower end on each 1 with' other articles, which contact might otherwise displace the lock accidentally.
The case B may be provided with an internallyrecessed extension, P, and with a spring, 12, therein, to assist in holding the lock a in place, if deemed advantageous.
The device may be used for holding a single cord or strap, or double, as D.
Such a fastener will be found useful for securing a cord, rope, or strap in all of their uses, especially for mail-pouches, grain-bags, window-cords, halters, 850
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cord or strap fastener consisting of the case provided with the side openings and raised portions having the stud-recesses, and a lock device adapted to engage the cord, and provided with the studs adapted to enter said recesses and side openings, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of the foregoing I have here- 60 unto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
