(Cl. 128-489) This invention relates to a brassiere, and more specifically to a brassiere having improved stretchable bust cups to snugly support the female bust during exaggerated body movements.

An object of this invention is to provide an improved brassiere construction permitting conformance to the body form for increased comfort and support during vigorous and exaggerated body movements.

Another object is to provide a brassiere which is handsome looking and which maintains its shape and appearance to give always natural looking accentuation and smooth silhouette to the female form.

A feature of the invention resides in an improvedbrassiere construction providing maximum support and automatic adjustments to effect a snug body-hugging feeling throughout the range of body movements.

The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there is illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, the brassiere comprises a pair of bust cups 21 secured to one another by a vertical seam 22 arranged to be disposed between the wearers breast. Each cup 21 is formed by an upper panel 23 and a lower panel 24 joined along a transversely extending seam 25.

A front under panel 26 is connected to each cup along the lower periphery thereof by a seam 27. The front under panel 26 of each cup 21 comprises a central midrib portion 26A formed of an elastic material joined along an extension of vertical seam 22. Joined to the outer end of the elastic midrib panel 26A is an outer relatively inelastic midrib panel 26B. Backing the midrib panels 26A and 26B of the under panel 26 is an elastic panel 26C.

Connected to the outer edge of each cup 21 and associated under panel 26, is a side and back panel 28, formed of an elastic material, for enwrapping the body. A flexible stay 29 may be included in the seam joining the side and back panel 28 to its respective cup 21.

In accordance with this invention a stretchable bust cup 21 is provided to insure improved comfort and support even during exaggerated body movements. To attain this end, the upper panel 23 of each cup 21 is formed of relatively inelastic material, and preferably of an attractive ornamental lace 23A on a backing of mesh 238 with scallop trim 23C decorating the upper edge of the cup. The lower panel 24 of cup 21 is formed of an elastic material 24A which is secured to the cup upper panel 23 along seam and to the respective under panel 26 along seam 27. Thus it will be noted that the elastic panel 24A of the cup forms an extension or continuation of the elastic backing 26C of the under panel 26.

To complete the structure of the brassiere, the front of the elastic cup panel 24A has connected thereto separable or split covering panel. In accordance with this invention and as illustrated by the drawings, the covering panel comprises a first portion 24B which is substantially triangular in shape with a slightly arcuate base portion. This portion 24B is secured to the upper portion of the elastic cup panel 24 by seams 25 and 30 which extend about its entire periphery. The lower portion of the elastic cup panel 24 is covered by a panel 24C. In accordance with this invention covering panel 24C is connected to the elastic panel 24A of the cup along its bottom marginal portions by seam 27 and along its side by the seam which joins the side and back panel 28. Referring particularly to FIG. 3, it is to be noted that the covering panel 24C is not sewn along the upper margin thereof. Thus it forms with the elastic panel of the cup a pocket 31 which is provided with a transversely extending open end. By providing this open pocket-like construction 31, the stretch of the elastic panel 24A of each cup is not restricted in any manner, as will be noted by the diagrammatic showing of FIG. 3.

The upper covering panel 243 of the lower cup panel 24 consists preferably of a layer of lace material, and the lower covering panel 24C is formed of a layer of lace over a backing of mesh 31.

As an alternate construction the covering panels 24B, 240 may be formed of a single panel construction with a transversely extending slit to provide the pocket feature described.

Shoulder straps 32, if desired, are provided.

The brassiere 20 thus described is constructed to provide the desired support and body-hugging feeling, throughout the range of body movements. The construction of each bust cup 21 and connected side and back panels 23 is designed to stretch in the direction of the body movements and yet embrace the body with satisfying support and comfort. Thus the brassiere insures the firmness and smooth contour desired for any body movement.

While in accordance with the provisions of the statutes there is illustrated and described herein the best form and mode of operation of the invention now known to the inventor, those skilled in the art will understand that changes may be made in the form of the apparatus disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention covered by the claims, and that certain features of the invention may sometimes be used to advantage without a corresponding use of other features.

What is claimed is:

l. A brassiere comprising a pair of stretchable bust cups shaped to snugly receive the bust of a female form, each of said cups including an upper medial panel and a lower medial panel connected by a sewn seam at the transverse medial line of their respective cups, one of said panels being formed of an inelastic material and the other panel being formed of an elastic material, said upper and lower cup panels defining the entire cup portion of said brassiere, an inelastic covering panel extending over a por* tion of said elastic panel, said covering panel being con nected to a portion of said elastic panel along a periph eral portion thereof to form therebetween a pocket opening along one end thereof for rendering said elastic panel stretchable, and a stretchable side-back panel connected to each cup to enwrap the body.

A brassiere comprising a pair of connected stretch able bust cups shaped to snugly support the bust of a female form during exaggerated body movements, each of said cups including an upper medial panel and a lower medial panel connected by a transversely extending medial scam, the lower medial panel of each cup being formed of a stretchable material and the upper medial panel thereof being formed of a relatively inelastic material, said upper panel being formed of a lace material, and said upper and lower panels defining the entire bust cup of the brassiere, an outerinelastic panel of lace material covering said lower elastic medial panel of said cup, said covering panel and lower elastic medial panel being connected along the lower edge portion thereof to form therebetween a. pocket open along the upper end thereof, and an elasticv side and back panel connected to each cup to enwrap the body.

A brassiere comprising a pair of connected stretchable bust cups shaped to snugly support the bust of a female form during exaggerated body movements, each of said cups including an upper medial panel and a lower medial panel connected by a transversely extending medial seam, said lower medial panel being formed of a stretchable elastic material and said upper panel being formed of a relatively inelastic material, and said inelastic upper panel and elastic lower panel defining the entire bust cup of the brassierc, an outer inelastic panel covering said lower elastic panel of said cup, said covering panel being connected to the elastic panel of said cup to form with a portion of said elastic panel a pocket therebetween whereby said cover panel and elastic panel are connected together along the lower peripheral portion thereof and open along the upper end thereof to permit stretching of the bust cups during body movements, and an elastic side and back panel connected to each cup to enwrap the body.

A brassiere comprising a pair of stretchable bust cups shaped to snugly support the bust of a female form during exaggerated body movements, said cups being connected by a vertical sewn seam, a front under panel connected to each cup, the under panel of each cup including an elastic inner midrib portion and a connected inelastic outer midrib portion connected thereto, a band of elastic material connected on the back side of each of said under panels, each cup including an inelastic upper medial panel and an elastic lower medial panel connected by a substantially horizontally extending medial seam, said lower elastic cup panel being connected to the under panel by a horizontally extending seam, said elastic panel portion of each cup having an upper and lower portion, a separable inelastic panel covering each of said elastic cup panel portions, the inelastic covering of said upper portion of said elastic cup panel being connected thereto by a seam extending about its entire periphery, and the inelastic panel covering the lower portion of said elastic cup panel having an upper end, and said latter mentioned inelastic panel covering being connected to the lower portion of said elastic panel to form therebetween a pocket havin an upper end, said pocket being open along the upper end thereof thereby rendering the respective cups stretchable to efiect a snug body-hugging feeling during various body movements, and a side and back panel for enwrapping the body connected to each cup.
