MEMO SELECT Filed Nov. 7, 1960 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 IN V EN TOR. W. anon Roan IGUE July 31, 1962 w. G. RODRIGUE MEMO SELECT 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Nov. 7, 1960 5 m 6 HM I N- NOTE 500K ada) Filed Nov. 7, 1960, Ser. No. 67,783 3 Claims. (ill. 116-435) This invention relates to memo pads and more particularly to a household memo pad assembly.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a convenient memo pad assembly which can be conveniently used for household and shopping purposes, to facilitate the ordering, selection, and purchase of various household articles.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a memo pad assembly which can be conveniently used within a home, but which can be readily carried in a purse or handbag for use during marketing trips.
Still an additional object of the present invent-ion is to provide a memo pad assembly of the above type having a built in emergency note pad for any desired information which may be of use in various types of emergency situations.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a memo select bearing the above objects in mind which is or" simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a memo pad assembly made in accordance with the presence invention in an open position;
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the device shown in FIGURE 1 in a closed position;
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the opposite side of the assembly shown in FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view showing certain operating parts of the present invention;
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary plan view of the operating parts shown in FIGURE 4;
FIGURE 6 is a front elevational view of the pad assembly showing the latch structure thereof; and
FIGURE 7 is a rear elevational view of the assembly shown in FIGURE 6 showing the hinge construction thereof.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a memo pad assembly 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a pair of closure members 12 hingedly connected together at one side by means of a hinge assembly 14, having cooperating latch elements 16 at the opposite sides for releasably securing the cover members in the closed position shown in FIGURES 6 and 7.
The interior of each cover member 12 is provided with a note panel 19 having a plurality of spaces 18 upon which various household titles 20 may be written, such as by a pencil 23 that is releasably secured in one of the cover members 12 by yieldable detents 21.
Alongside each one of the spaces 18, is a laterally extending slot 22 that slidably supports a slide button 24 for reciprocating lateral movement. Each slide button 24 is guided by track elements 26 within the respective slots 22 toward one side or the other. As is shown in FIGURE 5 of the drawing, the left side of the slot 22 is provided with the word no and the right side of the slot is provided with the word yes. Such negative and 3,946,932 Patented July 31, 1962 2 positive indicia 28, 30, respectively, may be readily uncovered by actuating the respective slide 24, thus indicating whether such articles are to be purchased during the next marketing trip.
The exterior of each cover member 12, adjacent to the hinge 14 thereof, is provided with a pair of enlarged bosses 32 that serve to level thedevice in the open position show nin FIGURE 1. These bosses 32 engage with the supporting surface, and limit the opening movement of the cover members.
It will now be recognized that in actual use, the shopping list 20 can be prepared with pencil 23, or such spaces 18 may be permanently imprinted with the most popular household food and utility items. It is then only necessary to actuate the respective slide members 24 to indicate whether such articles are to be purchased during the next marketing trip. This device is readily carried within the pocket or purse, and can be conveniently used within the home to make up each shopping list.
One of the cover members also includes an emergency note book 36, having a cover 34, latch 38, and handle 40, for listing important information for emergency purposes. I i
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be Within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a memo pad assembly a pair of cover elements, hinge means pivotally connecting said cover elements together along one edge for pivotal movement between an open and a closed position, a plurality of upstanding bosses integral with each one of said cover elements adjacent said hinge means thereof, said upstanding bosses defining projecting fins extending beyond the axis of said hinge means, said bosses limiting the movement of said cover elements toward an open position of degrees and said upstanding bosses abutting each other in a fully opened position.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein each cover element includes a panel mounted therewithin for listing popular household articles and indicator means along one edge of said list of household articles, said indicator means comprising a slide supported within said cover element for reciprocal longitudinal movement later ally of said cover element and negative and positive indicia imprinted upon each of said cover elements below each of said slides, whereby the position of said slide will determine the exposure of said negative or positive indicia.
3. The combination according to claim 2 wherein said cover is provided with a slot to receive said slide, said slide being reciprocably slidable within said slot, said negative and positive indicia being imprinted within said slot of said cover, said slide being of generally upstanding character, the upper portion of said slide extending higher than theupper portion of said cover and said slide being of a length at least as long as the length of either of the indicia imprinted within the slot of said cover.
