ATTORNEYS May 22, s, KNEE WALLET WITH IMPROVED FOLDABLE PASS CASE.
2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed July 6, 1954 f y l ATTORNEYS )hit-eelA States Patent O YWALLET wrm lMPRovED FoLDAnLE PAss CASE SimonKnee; Newark, N. I. Application July 6, 1954,` Serial No. 441,498 Claims.` (Cl. 150-35)' My invention relates to wallets and more particularly l to wallets provided with inserts of the type frequently referred to as pass cases.
One object of my invention isr to provide a wallet insert s which is' adapted to be releasably secured in position in a Wallet and which insert has a plurality of relatively fold- 4 insert which when releasably secured to a wallet provides means for holding paper money in `such position that it will not be readily visible. s
Yet another object of my invention is toI provide a lwallet insert which,if desired, maybe employed separately from the wallet as an auxiliary lightweight wallet vhaving relatively foldable pockets .to carry photographs or cards and also means for .holding paper money or otherpapers for convenient access and removal.
Other objects of my .inventionylwill become clear hereinafter as the characteristic .features of construction and mode of use of my invention are described in detail.
In t-he accompanying drawings:
Fig. l is 4a plan View of an open wallet having .a wallet insert embodying my invention releasably secured` thereto;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of .an open wallet having an `insert embodying my invention which insert is open but its foldable pockets are in their folded or sidefby-side condition;
Fig. 3 is `a plan view lof a wallet having .an insert embodying my invention included therein, the insert having its rela-tively .foldable pockets in open condition; l
Fig. 4is 'a plan 'view ,of a wallet having an insert embodying my invention, Ythe foldable pockets .of the insert being unfolded so Yas tovplace any money held by Vthe money clip on the insert `in .condition to be seen;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view take` along the line 5-5 `of Fig. 2;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken .along the line 6 6 of Fig. 3;
. wall by any suitable means such as cement or a sewed seam or both. Between the front wall14 andthe .rear `wall 12 is a center partition 16 which is mounted for limited longitudinal sliding movement. Although not .necessary to the invention, Vthe center `partition 16 and the rear wall 12 may have cooperating slide fastener members 18 for closing a paper money pocket defined by the two Walls. An extension or tia-p -19 -of lrear wall 12 on the .left .side of the Wallet, as viewed `in Fig. 5, .is Afolded `over vfront wall 14 and secured to the latter 'by any suitable means so as to deline a-pooket 20. 0f course, pocket '20 imay be formed in other well known manner. For reasons which 2,746,503 Patented `May 22,` 1956 "ice 2 willpbecomeclear. hereinafter pocket 2 0 is provided with a slit 22 at the extreme left hand. edge of pocket 20. As iswellknown in thev design of wallets, there` may also be provided on frontwall 14 pockets 24 and 26 adapted to contain calling cards and stamps or other necessary items therein.
My invention resides in the wallet insert. designated generally by the reference character 28., Asbest seen in Fig. 7, insert 28y is provided with a back wall30, which is foldable along a transverse line 32 which substantially bisects. the back wall. This wall may be made` of any suitable pliable material and will usually be made of l leather. A foldable wall 34 is secured to back wall 30 rnent with wall 34, for holding the money clip in the des scribed position.
Foldable wall 34 is provided withtwosquare apertures e 46 and 48 disposed so as not to be intersected bythe` line `49 along which wall 34 may be folded. Securedto wall 34 by suitable means, such as sewed seams or cement or both, ,are two apertured wall members 50 and 52 which preferably have their apertures in alignment. with the apertures 46 and 48 in foldable wall 34. A. relatively pliable transparent material `such `as Celluloid may be placed over the apertures so as to enclose them to form rela-tively foldable pockets which are viewable from either side.
Secured to the right hand wall portion of back wall 30 isanother apertured wall member 54 which cooperates with the back wall to form another pocket thereon. The aperture in member 54 will also be. enclosed by a transparent pliable material. It will be seen that when foldable wall 34 is in its folded position, as bestshown in Figs.
`2 and 5, the lirst or left hand portion of the back wall will be obscured froinview by the pockets .being folded in side-by-side relation with the left hand portion of the back wall so that if any .paper money is secured to the t 1l). It will be obvious that other types of securing means may be used in place of snap members 58 and 60.
The left hand portion of back wall 30 is adapted to Vbe inserted into pocket 2t) of wallet 10 with tab .56 extending through slit 22 as may best be seen in Figs. 2, 4 and 5. With vthe left hand portion of wall 30 so inserted, it will be obvious that `wallet insert 28 will remain in the described disposition so that the owner of the wallet may display any cards or photographs held in the pockets. It ,will also be obvious that with the pocket arrangement described heretofore, the owner of the wallet will have ,a
substantially large number of pockets which Vmay b e so [folded as to reduce the bulk of the insert andhence the i to the right as shown in Fig. 4, any money contained in pocket 20 and held there by money clip 42 will not be visible. f
Another advantage of my novel wallet insert is that it kmay be removed from wallet 10 so as to serve as a cornpact wallet in and f itself. Although the wallet insert cannot fulfill all the desired functions of an ordinary wallet such as wallet 10, it has provision for carrying cards and photographs and the like and also for carrying paper money and it has the advantage of having very little bulk so that it will be ideally suited for use with evening wear or the like. When used as an auxiliary wallet by itself, wallet insert 28 may be held in a closed condition with the foldable pockets in side-by-side relation by the snap members 58 and 60 to thereby assure that the wallet insert will be of minimum bulk.
Although I have herein shown and described only one form of wallet insert embodying my invention, it will be clear that various changes and modifications may be made therein within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. n
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
