1'0 a whom it may concern V Be it known that I, DAVID LUBIN, of the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Overalls and Panta- Icons, of which the following is a specification.

My i mprovement in overalls and pantaloons is directed to strengthening and re-enforcing those points, particularly the crotch-seam at the fly-opening, at which the garment is liable to be ripped or torn in use. To this end I make use of a continuous strip, which extends down the sides of the fly or front opening and crosses the crotch-seam or point of juncture of the leg portions, said strip being attached to the garment at every point along its'length. In. this way I effectually prevent the garment from being ripped or torn at the base of the fly-opening.

In connection with the reenforcing strip applied to the fly-opening, as above indicated, I make use of strengthening-strips at various other points throughout the garment, the whole arrangement being such that these strips form in effect what may be termed a flexible frame, which preserves the shape' of the garment, and so strengthens all weak points as to make it almost impossible to rip the garment.

Referring to the accompanying drawings fora more complete explanation of my invention, Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of overalls embodyingmy improvement. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 represents more clearly and in detail the continuous reenforcing strip H,in which my improvement is comprised. Fig. 4 is a View representing the strips F G arranged to cross one another.

The overalls A may be made in the usual way. In Fig. 1 the fly or front opening is seen, the button-hole fly-strip being shown at m. To re-enforce this portion of the garment, I make use-of a strip, H H, which, as represented more plainly in Fig. 3, extends down one side of the fly or front opening and up the other side across the point I of juncture of the leg portions as one continuous strip, being stitched to the garment at every point along its length. In this way I effectually ner meeting-point of the four seams. dentally the side strips 0 will serve to prevent the garment from being ripped or torn at the bottom of the fly-opening. The strip H H is continued up at each side to a strip, H, which is stitched around the top of the garment. A side strip, J is stitched along the lower part of the waistband until it meets the upper strip, H, where the latter is carried down through the opening K,where the buckle-strap crossed. I bind the bottom of the legs with a strip,'as at 1.. From this point a similar strip, C, ext-ends upward over the outside seam of each leg. I also sew over each seam of the waist a similar stay or strip, h, which passes around the body and binds the waist. A like strip, F, is stitched down over the inside seam of the legs, and this piece is made continuous from the bottom of one leg up across the middle or crotch seam, and thence down to the bottom of the other leg. Asimilar strip, G, is stitched along the crotchseam, so as to cross the strip F, thus forming a cross, which will effectually secure the cor Incistrengthen the corners of the pocket-openin gs, although not intended especially for this purpose. In this manner I form for the garment a complete flexible frame, which greatly enhances its strength. Various methods of stitching this frame may be adopted; but the simplest and strongest will be to first stitch the edge of the strip inside the outer lap of the seam, as shown in Fig. 5, and then fold it over the back or outside of the seam and sew through both parts.
