.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE WITTMAN, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Drawers; and Ihereby declare the .following t be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to certain improvements in drawers for underwear; and it consists in a means for re-enforcing or strengthening the front opening at the point where the sides meet; and it also consists of two independent facing-strips extending down upon opposite sides of the front opening, and having tongues which extend across and overlap each other 15 just below the meeting edges of the opening,

as will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a pair of drawers with my improvement. Fig. 2 shows the construction.

A is the body, and B are thelegs, of a pair of drawers having the usual vertical opening in front, which meets to form the bottom of the opening, and the sides stitched together .'from this point form the vertical crotch-seam,

which extends down to and crosses the trans verse seam C.

D` D are two facing-strips, which extend down one upon each side of the front opening, their upper ends being extended out along the waistband in each direction, as shown.

Just below the meeting point of the front opening cach of the strips D D has a tongue,

a, which extends across upon' the opposite,

side. These tongues are preferably faced with strong linen, and they extend across each other and through the body of the garment, as shown. The tongue a, from the strip D, passes beneath that from the strip D', and is stitched inside the garment, while thetongue a', from the strip D, is stitched upon the outside. Below these tongues the strips D D are continued down to the transverse crotch'seam C,

and are stitched across it and also the vertical crotch-seam, so as to strengthen these and prevent their ripping. By means of these tongues I provide a powerful double re-enforce at the bottom of the front opening, without unduly thickening the goods or making the garment too bulky at that point.
