MEASURE ATTACHMENT FOR POCKET-KNIVES,

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,057, dated July 15, 1884.

To all whom, it may concern;

*Be it known that I, JOSEPH THURNAUER, of Burgkunstadt, Bavaria, Germany, and residing'in Paris, France, have invented Iniproveinents in or Additions to Pocket-Knives, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of improvements in the construction of that class of pocket-knives which are provided with a graduated measuring-rule, adapted to slide in the handle of the knife, as more fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional view at right angles to that of Fig. 1.

The handle of the knife may be of any de-. sired form and dimension, with horn, ivory, tortoise-shell, or other suitable side pieces, A A, applied to the usual sheet-metal side plates, BB.

The knife may be provided with as many blades D as desired pivoted between the cheekpieces at the ends of the side plates, B B, and acted on by the back-spring E. In one of the side pieces, A, is formed a longitudinal recess, to which is adapted a graduated rule, F, capable of being slid into and out of the pocket thus formed, and having at its outer end a T- head, f, at right angles to its length. The inner end of the measure is provided with a rectangular projection or stud, f, adapted to a longitudinal guideslot, b, in the side plate B,

so that no matter how far in or out the rule F may be drawn the parallelism of the T-head f with the squared end a of the knife-handle will always be maintained.
