Description
July 4, 1961 R. E. TAYLOR TOOTl-IBRUSH AND PASTE KIT Filed NOV. 19, 1957 125'. Ta y Z01 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS United States Patent 2,990,833 TOOTHBRUSH AND PASTE IflT Roy Elbert Taylor, 109 S. Flynn St., Woynoka, Okla. Filed Nov. 19, 1957, Ser. No. 697,407 1 Claim. (Cl. 132-84) the case and the cover is extended, to the end that a toothbrush of the conventional length is provided.
An important object of the invention is the provision of a closure so shaped that when the closure is swung to an extended position the closure with the toothbrush handle extension carries out the general design of a toothbrush handle.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a case having a closure formed with a threaded opening in which the threaded spout of a tooth paste tube is positioned, normally securing the tooth paste tube within the case for ready access and use.
Another object of the invention is to mount the toothbrush handle on the inner surface of the closure or cap in such a way that it will be temporarily retained in an extended position when the closure is removed and the toothbrush swung to its extended position.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is an elevational view of a toothbrush case showing a toothbrush and tooth paste tube in dotted lines, as supported within the case.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the case.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a bottom plan view of the closure or cap with the toothbrush as moved to its extended position for use.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates a combined toothbrush and tooth paste tube, constructed in accordance with the invention. The reference character 6 indicates the closure or cover for the case 5, and is so constructed that it is wide at one end and tapered towards the other end to provide an extension for the handle of the toothbrush supported thereby when the toothbrush is swung to its active position for use.
The closure 6 provides a substantially thick section ice formed with a threaded bore 7 in which the threaded end 8 of a tooth paste tube 9 is positioned for ready removal.
The cover or closure 6 is formed with a groove 10 in which the end 11 of the toothbrush handle 12 is pivotally mounted, the pivot pin 13 on which the handle 12 is mounted being disposed at a slight angle with respect to the inner surface of the closure 6 so that when the handle 12 of the toothbrush is swung outwardly to a position longitudinally of the closure 6, a slight binding action is set up between the toothbrush handle 12 and the walls of the grooves 10 to temporarily hold the toothbrush in an extended position for use, the closure or cover 6 providing a continuation for the handle 12 of the toothbrush, providing a handle of normal length and one which may be readily gripped and held against rotation in the hand of the person using the toothbrush.
After the toothbrush has been used, the toothbrush is swung inwardly to the position as shown by FIG. 3 of the drawing, and the closure or cover fitted into the open end of the case 5 where the toothbrush may be protected against foreign matter, and at the same time provide a small case for package and personal use.
Due to the manner of supporting the tube 9 a tooth paste tube may be readily carried within the case, the closure or cover of the case providing the closure for the tooth paste tube.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
In a toothbrush and paste kit of the character described, the combination of an open-ended container, a removable closure fitted within the open end of said container, said closure having a groove extending inwardly from one end thereof formed in the inner surface of said closure, pro viding parallel side walls, a pivot pin having its ends embedded in openings in said walls of said groove and extending transversely between said walls, said pin being inclined at a slight angle with respect to said walls of said groove, a toothbrush having a handle pivotally mounted on said inclined pin, the side edges of said handle setting up a binding action with the walls of said groove, upon outward movement of said brush handle, normally holding said toothbrush in an extended position.
