Beit known that I, FRANK S. CLARKsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, Maryland, have invented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in'Friction-IIinges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my inven- [o tion, partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the same.
Like letters of reference are applied to the same parts in both figures. Referring to the drawings by letter, A rep-V i 5 resents one leaf, and B the other. The leaf A is provided with apintle, a, and the leaf B with a socket, b.
The pintle a, which enters andA turns -inthe socket b, is of a smaller diameter than the I 2o socket, and is bent as shown, so that it will be necessary to exert some force in inserting it in the socket. l
It will be seen that the pintle has two bearings on one side of the socket, as at c d, and
25 one on the opposite side, as ate.
The friction of the pintle in the socket will be sufficient to resist a considerable effort to move the leaves, thus serving to hold the leaves firmly at any angle desired.
The simplicity and effectiveness of my device Will be apparentat a glance.
I am aware that a friction-hinge with split pintle is old, and consequently do not claim such construction.
