.To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN ADAMS Nnsm'r, of Oharlottesville, in the county of Hancock and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Convertible Bridle and Halter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, formiuga part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 shows my invention as it appears when used as a bridle. Fig. 2 is a broken side elevation, showing the bits and halterstrap attached; and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view taken on the line as an of Fig. 2, the bits being removed.

The invention will first be described in conneotion with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim. 7

The main part of the bridle A-viz., the head-baud a, cheek-pieces I), brow-band c, nosestrap c2, and check-rein e-niay be of the ordinary or of any approved construction. The cheek-pieces b and nose-band (Z meetin the ringsf, to which also the bits B and halter attachment Care attached. The bits B are made detachable from the rings f, preferably by means of the snap-hook g. The halter attachment 0 consists, essentially, of the connecting-straps h and the ring i, to which latter the halter-strap D is adapted to be attached. The connecting -straps hmay be plain straps; but I prefer to construct them so that they will furnish a draw-pull, and to this end I fold them at h, where they pass through the side rings, f, and pass the outer ends through the loops 3', and secure them to the ring R, which is arranged to surround the central portion of the strap to which the ring '11 is attached, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, so that by pulling upon the ring 1' the ring is will be drawn forward by the outer portions of the straps h, causing these straps and the strap d to close around the horses nose with greater or less force, according to the strength of the pull, thus making the halter very effective in holding the horse.

\Vhen used as a bridle. the strap D may be detached, if desired. Vhen so detached. in order to convert the bridle to a halter, it is only necessary to attach the strap D to the ringil and detach the books 9 from the side rings, f, and remove the bits from the horses mouth. The reverse of this converts the halter to a bridle.

The halter attachment 0 may be constructed to be attached to the rings f f by means of snap-hooks. In this case the folds at 72. would be passed through the slots in the snap-hooks at each side, in place of being passed through the said ring f, and the hooks would then be snapped into the rings f when the attachment 1s 11] use.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the ringf ofa bridle, of the halter attachment- O,'consisting of rings 2' 7c and the strap h, the strap being secured at the middle of its length to the ring '5, passed through ring ]c, and the ends passed through the rings f of the bridle and secured to the ring k, substantially as described.
