1 Claim. (Cl. 24-20545 Othe objects and advantages will become apparent in.
the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings, in which: v
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention. 7
K 'Figure 2 is an enlarged front elevation illustrating the device attached to the tab of aseparable slide fastener, parts broken away for theconvenience of illustration.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, with the device shown separate from the tab of theseparable slide fastener, ready to be attached;
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures,.the reference character 10 indicates generally an elongated shaft having a hook 11 formed on one of its end, and having a knob 12 on its opposite end.
. United States Patent Patented Mar; 15, 1960 ice hook 11 is hooked into the tab 17 the shield 13 is brought down to the position shown in Figure 2, so that when the shaft is pulled upwardly in the closing or opening of the separable fastener the hook 11 will not enter or catch itself on any surrounding garments, 'and further the shield 13 helps to maintain the hook 11 in connection with the tab 17. a
The hook 11 may be attached to the tab 17 after the garment 20 is on the wearer, or it may be applied before i invention, it should be understood that numerous struc;
tural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim. I
What is claimed is: I A separable fastener operator for detachable connection to separable fasteners of the type having a pair of slide fastener stringers and having a sliding operator for Slidably mounted upon theshaft 16 adjacent the hook 11, is a conical shield 13. Theconical'shield, 13 has a cylindrical portion 14 which fits the shaft 10 relatively tight, offering a slight resistance so that it will remain I in a fixed adjusted position in regards to the shaft 10,
either in the position shown in Figure 2 or that shown in Figure 3.
The book 11 is provided with a point 15, which is rounded rather than sharp, but'which will readily pass through opening 16 of a tab 17 of a separable fastener traveller 18. The separable fastener includes conven-.
tional interlocking teeth 19, which are secured to the garment 20 to close an opening therein.
In the operation, the operator withdraws the shield 13 from over the'hook 11, as illustrated in Figure 3, so that the point 15 of the hook 11 can be inserted. within the opening 16 of the tab 17 of the traveller 18. After the opening and closing said stringers and carrying a handle tab. on said operator comprising an elongated shaft, a handle fixed to one end of said shaft, a hook integrally formed on the other end of said shaft for detachable connection to said tab, a conical-shield slidably encompassing said shaftintermediate said handle and said hook, and a cylindrical portion integrally extending axially outwardly of the small end of said shield, said cylindrical portion having an axial bore of a diameter to frictionally engage said shaft, said shield having a base diameter greater than the width of said hook, said shield being movable along said shaft from a positionspaced from said hook-to a second position whereby said shield encompasses said hook and a portion of said tab when connected thereto covering said hook to'pr'event accidental engagement of said hook with the material adjacent said separable fastener, said hook abutting against the inner face of said shield to maintain said shield in r spaced relation with regard to said; stringers of said separable fastener.
