1950 J. KAAS A 2,518,424
BODY MEMBER COVERING Filed Nov. 21, 1947 IN V EN TOR.
Josz alll lm [(6105 BY Patented Aug. 8, 1950 UNITED STATES-I PATENT OFFICE Application November 21, 1947, Serial No. 787,436
2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to improvements in body member coverings and, more particularly, contemplates a covering and novel securing means therefor which will permit the circulation of air to the member covered.
It is a general object of the invention to provide a body member covering sufficiently larger than the member to permit the circulation of air between the covering and member and novel fastening means therefor adapted to secure only a portion of the covering to the body leaving the remainder of the covering spaced from the body whereby to allow the entrance of air.
- In a specific aspect, the invention contemplates the provision of a glove or mitten to be worn after a cosmetic cream has been applied to the hands toprotect clothing and the like from the oily cream and to enable the wearer to perform usual household and other duties. Such gloves or mittens are usually formed of a material impervious to air and moisture and, heretofore have been secured to the wrist in such a manner that circulation of air to the hand is prevented, resulting in discomfort to the wearer or no securing means is provided resulting in only limited use of the wearers hand. It is a particular object of the present invention to avoid these defects and disadvantages characteristic of prior hand protective coverings and to provide an improved covering and fastening means which will result in no discomfort and which will not impede activities of the wearer.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein preferred embodiments of the principles of ,the invention have been selected for exemplification.
In the drawings: I
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a glove constructed in accordance with the invention positioned on a human hand and showing the glove secured to the wrist in a manner to allow free circulation of air to the hand; and
Fig. 2 is a transverse cross-sectional view through the wrist of a wearer illustrating a modified form of glove securing means.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like designations refer to like parts, A indicates in its entirety a hand covering in the .form of a glove having the usual finger portions and a wrist or cuff portion [0. Glove A, as shown, is sufficiently larger than the hand of the wearer to provide a space for thecirculation of air between the glove and the wrist, hand and fingers of the wearer. The material of glove A is preferably oil and moisture proof and in one form of the invention may be of plastic sheet material fused together to avoid bulky seams.
To secure the glove A to the wearer in a manner to permit such circulation of air, in accordance with the novel concept of the invention, a strap or the like I2 is provided having its intermediate portion disposed in a loop inside the cuff portion in to engage the wrist of the wearer and its extremities projecting through slits or apertures It in the bottom or under part of cuff portion III in position to be drawn tight and buckled or otherwise fastened together as indicated at I6. As shown, only a relatively narrow area of the cuff portion H) is in engagement with the under part of the wrist in order to provide adequate securing means for the glove A, all other portions of which remain free of the wrist and hand of the wearer to permit abundant circulation of air.
In the modified form of fastening means shown in Fig. 2, the wrist strap I8 is of expansiblerubber or the like preferably coated or encased in a plastic or other suitable material protective against any oily substance which may be applied to the hand. Strap I8 is fused or adhesively secured at its bottom or under wrist part to the adjacent surface of cufi portion I as indicated at 20 so that the glove A will be fastened upon the wearer when the wrist is inserted through the strap l8.
It will be expressly understood that the specific fastening means herein shown and described are exemplary only of a great number of other known fastening devices which the invention contem plates may be alternatively employed, provided only that a portion of the glove or other covering is in engagement with the body of the wearer and the remaining portion is spaced from the body to permit free circulation of air to the covered memher.
It will be further understood that the principles of the invention are not limited to the specific glove form herein shown and described but embrace any other form of body member covering. for example, mittens or booties or the like.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A hand covering sufficiently larger than the hand of the wearer to provide space for the circulation of air between said covering and hand, a cuff portion for said hand covering having a circumferential area substantially larger than the wrist of the wearer and fastening means for said covering at said cuff portion for encircling JOSEPHINE KAAS.
