Description
Nov. 24, 1959 H. BOCK BULB TEE CLIP Filed Feb. 25
INVENTOR Li I.
HENRY BOCK ATTORNEYS- United States Patent BULB TEE CLIP Henry Bock, Elizabeth, NJ.
Application February 25, 1958, Serial No. 717,344
1 Claim. (Cl. 189-35) This invention is a bulb tee clip, adapted for quick and ready anchorage to a bulb tee, the clip having extensions to engage and bite into adjacent edges of panels, wall board, building slabs and the like.
A bulb tee, in cross section, usually comprises a vertical web, which at the top is provided with a widened head and at the bottom with a lateral base flange.
The bulb tee clip of the present invention is of malleable metal and of a generally dihedral shape, in cross section, and is adapted to engage over the head of the bulb tee; the clip is applied over the bulb tee, as with a hammer, the clip being provided with extensions which pass over and around the head of the bulb tee and engage under such head, thereby anchoring the clip to the bulb tee, this hammering operation flattening the dihedral to a nearly flat form.
The clip also has lateral extensions which, when the clip is being applied to the bulb tee, bite into adjacent edges of panels, wall board or the like, so that as the clip is hammered into place, these extensions engage with such adjacent edges and anchor the panels to the clip and to the bulb tee.
The further features of the invention will be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the bulb tee clip of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is an end view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a side view, showing the clip just before applying to a bulb tee; and
Fig. 5 is an end view, partly in section, showing the clip in applied position.
The clip is made of malleable sheet metal, the several parts being preferably integral, and comprises a main portion 2, the two parts of which extend laterally upwardly from a center line 4 to form a dihedral angle 6.
Portions 2 are provided with extensions or wings 8,
"ice
which terminate in downwardly bent flanges 10, preferably about perpendicular to extensions 8.
The central part of the clip is cut out to provide two downwardly extending anchors 12, which terminate in integral inwardly extending flanges 14. The flanges 14 extend for the full length of anchors 12, for providing an anchorage extending the full length of said anchors.
A typical bulb tee to which the clip is applied comprises a central web 16, an enlarged head 18 and a base 20.
In operation, a pair of panels, wall boards or the like 22 are placed along side the bulb tee and the clip is applied as in Fig. 4 and hammered into place as in Fig. 5. This flattens, or nearly flattens, the dihedral angle, and causes the terminal flanges 10 to bite into the panels 22, thereby securing the panels to the clip. In the same operation, anchors 12 pass down along side head 18 of the bulb tee and the terminal flanges 14 snap under head 18, thereby anchoring the clip to such head and securing the panels 22 to the bulb tee.
While the clip has been described in detail, it should be understood that changes may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
An integral, one piece attachment for gripping a bulb tee, comprising a central body portion of malleable sheet metal extending upwardly at a dihedral angle, said central body portion having two downwardly extending anchors integral therewith, each such anchor terminating in an inwardly bent flange, said flanges extending toward each other, each flange extending for the full length of its corresponding anchor, said central body portion further having integral outward extensions, extending laterally and upwardly at a dihedral angle, each of said extensions terminating in a downwardly bent terminal flange, whereby, when the attachment is hammered into place onto a bulb tee, the dihedral angle is flattened, the two downwardly extending anchors and their flanges engage around and under the bulb tee and the lateral extensions are flattened and their terminal flanges bite into the panel or board material to be anchored to the bulb tee.
