Application June 1, 1956, Serial No. 588,865
1 Claim. (Cl. 281-44) This invention relates to memorandum card holders adapted to receive and hold a stack of cards or unpadded sheets of paper while notes or memoranda are made thereon.
It is the general object of this invention to provide a memorandum card holder adapted to be stationed in the top of a telephone table, desk, or kitchen cabinet counter for holding a plurality of memorandum cards.
Another object of this invention is to provide a memorandum card holder which holds the cards securely and which may be adjusted to a selected writing position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a memorandum card holder from which the cards may be removed easily one at a time.
Another object of this invention is to provide a memorandum card holder which is installable in the tops of desks, telephone tables and the like without interfering with the normal use of these surfaces.
The manner in Which the foregoing and other objects of this invention may be accomplished will be apparent from the accompanying specification and claim considered together with the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the herein described memorandum card holder;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the herein described memorandum card holder taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view'of the herein described memorandum card holder taken along line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Generally stated the memorandum card holder of the present invention comprises a centrally cut away plate dimensioned to seat in an opening in the top of a table. The plate preferably is circular to make it rotatable. It has an outwardly extending peripheral flange dimensioned to overlie the table top, thereby mounting the plate therein.
A generally U-shaped bracket designed to receive a stack of cards is attached to the plate and underlies the cut away portion thereof. Flanges extend inwardly from opposite side edges of the cut away portion of the plate,
and a spring pressed follower plate is stationed within the bracket for pressing the memorandum cards resiliently against the flanges, thereby providing a writing surface.
Considering the foregoing in greater detail and with particular reference to the drawings:
The herein described memorandum card holder may be mounted in a suitable working surface 10, such as the top of a telephone table, desk, kitchen cabinet, or like 2,863,675 Patented Dec. 9, 1958 article cut away to provide an opening 12 which preferably is circular in outline. Seated within this opening is a plate 14 which also preferably is circular. This plate may be made of plastic, vwood, metal, or any other suitable constructional material. 'It is provided with an outwardly extending peripheral flange 16 of suflicient extent to overlie surface 10, thereby mounting the plate in the opening.
Plate 14 is formed with a centrally cut away area adapted to receive a stack of cards or unpadded sheets of paper 18. These are contained within a generally U-shaped bracket 20 which is connected to plate 14 and underlies the cut away portion thereof.
Bracket 20, like plate 14, may be made of plastic, wood, metal or other suitable constructional material. It preferably is formed integrally with the plate from a single piece of plastic and is provided with a central, upwardly projecting, spring-anchoring projection 22.
Further to maintain cards 18 within the bracket and to permit their discharge therefrom, opposite side edges of the cut away portion of plate 14 are provided with a pair of inwardly extending flanges 24, 26 which overlie the cards. The other side edges 28, 30 of the cut away portion are beveled in parallel planes, providing guiding surfaces for directing the removal of the cards. A finger recess 34 is formed in the upper surface of plate 14.
The cards within the holder are supported and urged upwardly against flanges 24, 26 by a spring pressed follower plate 36, the lower surf-ace of which is provided with a spring-anchoring projection 38. A suitably dimensioned coil spring 40, one end of which engages projection 22 on bracket 20 and the other end of which engages projection 38 on follower plate 36, then is interposed between the bracket and the follower plate.
Accordingly, when a stack of cards 18 is placed within the holder the surface of the top card is exposed for writing in a convenient position. If it is desired to change the position of the card relative to the writer, the entire holder may be rotated within opening 12 in the supporting surface 10 until the desired position has been reached.
After the memorandum has been noted on the top card, it may be slipped out from beneath flanges 24, 26, finger recess 34 and guiding surfaces 28, 30 assisting in this endeavor. A fresh card then is presented for recording the next memorandum.
In this manner there is provided a memorandum card holder which holds cards securely, which is adjustable to different writing positions, and from which the cards may be released easily one at a time after the memorandum has been completed.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be considered as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A memorandum card holder comprising a plate, the plate having a central aperture therein, flanges extending inwardly from opposite side edges of the aperture at the top thereof, a U-shaped bracket depending from said plate and underlying said plate aperture, said bracket being dimensioned to receive a plurality of memoran- .dum cards, a follower plate in said bracket upon which are seated a plurality of memorandum cards, spring means interposed between said bracket and said follower plate to bias said follower plate upwardly and urge the uppermost card into engagement with said flanges, a depending circular guide shoulder on said plate adapted to be received freely within a circular opening in the top of a table or the like for guiding the rotation of the plate, and a peripheral flange on said plate extending laterally of said circular shoulder and being dimensioned to rest slidably on the top surface of a table top surrounding an opening therein for rotatably supporting the plate with the bracket depending freely through the opening.
