3 Claims. (Cl. 312-287) The present invention relates to a refrigerator. An object of the present invention is to provide a refrigerator having a pair of readily accessible chambers,
' one for the storage and chilling of food, and the other for the storage and freezing of food. 7
Another object of the present invention is to provid a refrigerator which lends itself readily for use in homes, clubs, restaurants, offices and elsewhere where it is desirable to separately store foods or liquors in a chilled, but not frozen state, and food or other commodities in a frozen state.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a refrigerator having a separate frozen food compartment and a chilling compartment, one which is attractive in appearance, one which is sturdily constructed and inexpensive in manufacture and assembly, and one which is effective in action.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the refrigerator of the present invention, showing it with both doors closed.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the refrigerator of Figure 1, showing it with one door open.
Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the refrigerator with both doors open.
Figure 4 is a bottom view.
Figure 5 is a sectional view, taken on the line 55 of Figure l, and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view on an enlarged scale taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 4.
Referring in greater detail to the drawings, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the present invention consists in a refrigerator apparatus comprising a base indicated generally by the reference numeral 10, and including a rim 11 which has its lower end adapted to rest upon a floor surface, the latter being indicated by a dotted line 12 in Figure 6. The apparatus includes a refrigerator having a bottom 13, a top 14, and two pairs of opposed side walls and is positioned so that the bottom 13 straddles the rim 11 of the base 10. One pair of opposed side walls of the refrigerator are indicated by the reference numerals 15 and 16, and the other pair of the side walls of the refrigerator are indicated by the reference numerals 17 and 18.
A brace 19 is horizontally disposed within and is secured t0 the rim 11 of the base 10, as shown most clearly in Figure 4. A guide pin 20 is carried by the refrigerator bottom 13 and extends loosely through a hole 21 provided in the center of the brace 19.
Means is provided for connecting the refrigerator bottom 13 to the rim 11 for free rotation of the refrigerator about the rim 11 as an axis. Specifically, this means embodies a raceway 22 formed in the upper rim 11 and carrying a plurality of freely rotatable ball bearings 23,

as shown in Figure 6, the ball bearings 23 bearing against and supporting the bottom 13 of the refrigerator.
A partition 24 extends between the opposed sidewalls 1'5 and 16 intermediate the ends of the latter and subdivides the interior space of the refrigerator on one side of the partition 24 and the adjacent parts of the side walls 15 and 16 into afreezing chamber, and'on the other side of the partition 24 and the adjacent parts of the side walls 15 and 16 into a refrigerating chamber.
Each of the side walls 17 and 18 has a door opening and an openable and closable door 25 bridges and closes the door opening in the side wall 18 and another openable and closable door 26 bridges the door opening in the side wall 17. Both of the doors 25 and 26are connected along their right-hand edges to the refrigerator by hinges of the conventional design for movement from the full line position shown in Figure 5, to the dotted line position in that figure. The hinges are indicated by the reference numeral 27.
Each ofthe doors 25 and 26 has operating handles 28, there being conventionally designed latches and latch mechanisms within the doors engageable with catches 29 upon the side walls 17 and 18:. As shownin the bottom view (Figure 4), the brace 19 carries on its upper face a pair of commutator rings 30 and 31 and suitable brushes 32 fixed to the bottom 13 of the. refrigerator which are in electrical contact with the rings 30 and 31 for conducting current from the supply conduit 33 to the mechanism of the refrigerator, the latter not being shown as not a part of the invention.
In Figure 4 the rotary movement of the refrigerator is indicated by arrows in dotted lines, showing its movement about the pin 20 as an axis. Suitable shelving, indicated by the reference numeral 34, is provided in both the refrigerating and freezing chambers of the refrigerator and trays 35 are provided for the freezing of ice cubes, and are carried upon a freezing shelf 36, as is well known in the art.
It will be seen, therefore, thatthe refrigerator of the present invention presents a neat appearance and has double utility, it being possible to store frozen food in the freezing chamber, and chilled food in the refrigerating chamber, each chamber being readily accessible as the refrigerator turns about it base to present either the forward face or the rearward face. The food stored in the refrigerating chamber may be removed therefrom without disturbing the food stored in the freezing chamber. The refrigerator of the present invention will be seen, therefore, to be generally useful in all homes, clubs, restaurants, and elsewhere where it is desirable to conserve space, and yet to have both a freezer and a refrigerator. The refrigerator of the present invention may be constructed in any size desired, and may either have right-hand opening doors, or left-hand opening doors, as desired.
What is claimed is:
l. A refrigerating apparatus including a base and an upstanding rim having its lower end adapted to rest upon a floor surface, a refrigerator including a bottom, a top, and two pairs of opposedside walls positioned so that the bottom straddles the rim of said base, means connecting said refrigerator bottom to said base rim for free rotation about said rim as an axis, a partition extending between one of the opposed pairs of side walls intermediate the ends thereof and subdividing the interior space of the refrigerator on one side of said partition and the adjacent one side wall of the other of said pair of side walls and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of. side walls into a freezing chamber and on the other side of said partition and the adjacent other side wall of the other of said pair of side walls and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of side walls into a refrigerating chamber, there being a door opening in each of the side walls of said other pair of opposed side Walls, and an openable and closable door bridging and closing the door opening in each of said side walls of said other opposed pair of side walls.

A refrigerating apparatus including a base and an upstanding rim having its lower end adapted to rest upon a floor surface, a refrigerator including a bottom, a top, and two pairs of opposed side Walls positioned so that the bottom straddles the rim of said base, a horizontally disposed brace positioned Within and attached to said rim, a guide pin carried by said refrigerator bottom and extending loosely through said brace, means connecting said refrigerator bottom to said base rim for free rotation about said rim as an axis, a partition extending between one of the opposed pairs of side walls intermediate the ends thereof subdividing the interior space of the rest upon a floor surface, a refrigerator including a bottom, a top, and two pairs-of opposed side walls positioned so that the bottom straddles the rim of said base, a horizontally disposed brace positioned Within and attached to said rim, a guide pin carried by said refrigerator bottom and extending loosely through said brace, means embodying a raceway carrying a plurality of balls carried by the upper end of said rim and bearing against said refrigerator bottom connecting said refrigerator bottom to said base rim for free rotation about said rim as an axis, a partition extending between one of the opposed pairs of side walls intermediate the ends thereof v and subdividing the interior space of the refrigerator on refrigerator on one side of said partition and the adjacent one side wall of the other of said pair of side walls and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of side walls into a freezing chamber and on the other side of said partition and the adjacent other side wall of the other of said pair of side walls and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of side Walls into a refrigerating chamber, there being a door opening in each of the side walls of said other pair of said opposed side walls and an openable and closable door bridging and closing the door opening in each side Wall of said other opposed pair of side walls.
3; A refrigerating apparatus comprising a base including an upstanding rim having its lower end adapted to one side of said partition and the adjacent one side wall of the other of said pair of side walls and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of side walls into a freezing chamber and on the other side of said partition and the adjacent other side wall of the other of said pair of opposed sidewall and the adjacent parts of said one opposed pair of said side walls into a refrigerating chamher, there being a door opening in each of the side walls of said other pair of opposed side walls and an openable and closable door bridging and closing the door opening in each side wall of said other opposed pair of side walls.
