Patented J line 19 llIIl/IIIIIIIIII WITNESSES ATTO R N EY$ N. PETERS. Fhotbljlhogmpher. Wnshin mn. 0.0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. GINGER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
HARNESS-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,74l, dated June 19, 1883.
' Application filed April 3, 1883. (No model.)-
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES S. GINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Hartions of the harness or bridle, and that will pre- Vent the ring that is secured by the loop from wearing and damaging the leather at the loop.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a harness-l0op embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional viewtaken through the collar. Fig. 4 is a detail view, in perspective, of the hook and collar.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the loop, which is formed in the harness-strap B,
and O is the ring, which is engaged by the said loop in the usual manner.
D is a wearing-plate that is arranged inside the loop, and conforms, mainly, to the shape thereof, comprising a main portion, E, having a loop or hook-shaped end, F, in which the ring 0 is retained and prevented from wearing the leather of the loop by friction therewith. This plate, being formed of metal, not only protects the leather of the loop, against wear, but it also strengthens the loop and forms a tug against ,which the ring 0 pulls. At its rear end, G, the plate D is provided with lat eral wings or flanges H H, arranged one at each side, the purpose of which will be pres ently described.
I is a collar or ring that is preferably rectangular in form and encircles the loop portion of the strap B between the actual loop at the end carrying the ring and the rear end of the plate D, having the wings H H. This collar is arranged to slide on the strap B, and will engage the wings H H to carry the plate D along in the loop when desired. The collar I also preserves the shape of the loop in the strap by being adjustable thereon, and serves to retain the plate D in position.
If desired, the rear edges, J J, of the collar I can be provided with recesses KKto receive the wings H H.
I claim as my invention As an improvement in harness-loops, the combination of the strap-loop, the tug-plate D, arranged loosely therein and having the lateral wings or flanges H H, and the collar or loop circle the strap-loop and to slide on the same to preserve its shape, the wings or flanges of the plate D resting in the recesses, all arranged substantially as set forth.
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing as "my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES SAMUEL GINGER. Witnesses:
